garden boundary, how to check them?

Our neighbour put a fence up before we moved into the property, but looking at the way the other gardens are along the bottom, it looks as if they have taken a big chunk of what might have been my garden?

An old lady lived in the property before us and it was quite overgrown... I'm wondering if they may have taken advantage of that fact some years ago?

I do live in a council property, but we do want to buy it in the next few years. The garden at the bottom belongs to a private property.

Does anyone know where I can look on line at the boundaries? Could they be made to put it right?

Thank you :)
I forgot to say, I'm in Southampton in the UK :)

I am in the U.S. and we can go to the county govt. office and look at the surveryor's records of residential property. The council office should have similar records you could check.

Get this clarified now so when you decide to buy, there isn't a big problem. It does sound like the neighbor has appropriated some of the property that goes with your house. Good luck!! : /
