This is starting to be a good trend. I've heard great things about Gankutsuou, and based on the art style, it's definitely something I'd like to check out.

I was recommended this series by a friend a few years back. Gonzo based it on the novel, The Count of Monte Cristo. However, it isn't centered on the Count, but rather Albert and how the Count used him and such. The setting is also different. Rather than have it take place in the 1700s - 1800s (I forget), it takes place around the future. Some creative liberties here and there. It's a pretty good series and I think it's pretty worthy for an adaptation/reimagination. Recommend a watch.

Best series ever. I watched it fansubbed. I bought the Region 2 DVRAB when they came out. Then I bought it again when Geneon first released the volumes. Lastly, I'll buy it again if Funimation ever releases it to Blu-Ray.

I recently just watched the first 3 episodes of the English dub, and I love what I've seen of it, so far. Its the type of series that moves at a very slow pace, but makes up for it with very interesting characters, and cleverly written dialogue, with the experience also being enhanced by a great atmosphere. In all honesty, I'm not really crazy about the art style, but at the same time, its nothing that really bothers me, so it doesn't hinder the overall enjoyment that I've been getting out of this series, so far. I haven't watched the sub, so I have nothing to compare the dub to, but the voice acting in it seems to be pretty well done, for the most part, IMO.

Anyways, I can't wait to watch more of this series, when I get the chance to.

The manga version of Gankutsuou uses the original novel's concept and has it keenly focused on the Count and his revenge. Unfortunately it's only three volumes long and incomplete.

That said, I hope this great news creates some awareness for this under appreciated series. Overall, I managed to find it significantly engaging. Now if I only made this much effort in finding time to finish the novel...

It's good to see this series getting a little more exposure. Gankutsuou was great and while I do have a couple of minor complaints about the way it wrapped up, the whole thing was certainly worth my time. I also think it's not that hard to get used to the art style.

Seeing things from Albert's perspective was a risk that paid off, though the Count himself remained the more interesting character.

I imagine it wasn't particularly successful commercially, to say nothing more, but this really was one of Gonzo's best series.

I been wanting to see this as I've herd it's a great quality series that is very faithful to the original novel (which I have read) despite it's Sci-fi background.
