UGH!!!

Yesterday, as I was innocently walking on the sidewalk, i was approached by 3 black men. They asked me if I wanted some cocaine, and I said no. Then one of them pulled out a gun and asked me again. At this point, I was scared as hell. I gave the gang members a $20 and they dispersed. This freaks me out, and now I think they may do it again. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to alleviate this problem... and has this happened to anyone else before?
 
That's fucked and I wont give you some smart ass reply. You're in a bad situation, and there's few options.

1. Move
2. Get a gun
3. Walk home a different way or take a taxi or something
4. Walk home with a group

That's a horrible situation and I wish I could offer more constructive advice.
 
I almost hate to give you this advice, because I might have to hear about it on the news, but it's very real and serious advice.

If you pull a gun, only do it if you're gonna use it. It's not to threaten, it's not to impress, it's to fucking shoot people. Many people have died when they pulled one and then didn't actually use it and got killed for it.

I really hope you never have to be faced with this choice. Really.

Though that's kinda a smart ass reply, I thought the same thing when I read this. I suggest moving myself, you would need to learn to use a gun, and it's still a high chance you might get shot too even if you own one. Easier to get the hell out of there.
 
Yikes. Scary stuff. Seems weird they would pull a gun on you and ask you if you wanted any coke. Sounds to me like they weren't selling you at all, and were looking for you to give them some money so they could go off and buy some cocaine.

Is this sort of thing isolated in your area, or has there been a lot of gang related violence? If so, I'd definately think about moving. Those no need to stay in that type of neighborhood. Job, girlfriend/wife, family, history, memories, whatever... none of that will mean anything if you are dead.

Hope it doesn't happen again, regardless of where you end up. That's crappy shit.
 
You can get a gun, but only use it for desperate measures.

Rule number one, try not to walk home alone. Gangs are attracted to loners and people they generally see as an easy target.

Rule number two, inform authorities of the location that it happened, and of any features of the guys that held you up if you can remember.

This way, the authorities can monitor the area you were in, and hopefully stop this before you or anyone else gets hurt or worse.
 
Inform the police and suggest that they monitor the area it happened in more closely if you ever hear of it happening to anyone else? Otherwise I'd suggest getting a gun and only pulling it out if they're gonna put one in you.
 
Stop telling him to get a god damn gun! It's a bad idea, get the hell out of there. If you pull out a gun on gangsters (of course that's if they even give you a damn chance to) I'm pretty sure the rest of the gang would be pretty damn pissed and that's not something you want.
 
Since moving might not be an option, I'd go with the suggestions to try walking a different route home, walk with friends when possible, use public transportation if it's available, and maybe looking into some kind of self-defense training.

Adult schools and other groups have classes that are either free or very reasonably priced. In addition to learning how to defend yourself, they teach one how to not look like a victim.

It's good physical and mental training, and something you can continue learning.
 
I've been attemptedly mugged by a few before...of course over here they send in a little guy as bait, to ask you for money.. and mouth off for turning him down. you turn around to deck him and bam theres 8 guys with knives.
..your lucky. that coulda turned out ugly.
 
wow. I wouldnt want to be in that situation. that would have scared the crap out of me. so anyway, like said before, just try to walk home in a group, or use public transportation. Or you could drive everywhere.

i would try walking home a different way.
That would seem like the best and most logical way, if not, you may want to try some of the other things people have said.
