Gametap's Tomb Raider Revisioned Talkback (Spoilers)

I suppose the series may actually be called "Revisioned: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", but I'll title it the way real people would.

This show started recently at http://tombraider.gametap.com. As far as internet cartoons go, I already like it way better than 24: Day Zero. Clearly the budget isn't quite as high as that of Reign, but it looks at least on the level of the newer Ninja Turtles cartoons.

WARNING: Gametap classifies this as being an age 17+ show. It contains bloodshed. (And, given Lara's character design and Peter Chung's tendencies, you can bet there are torpedo boobs. Nothing explicit yet, though.)
 
On the same level?! No, I'm affraid I have to disagree with you there, lush smooth animation, CG backgrounds, nice character designs (whose lips don't just flap up and down like in most "realistic" cartoons) and an already engaging plot, no this show is at a far higher level than the 2k3 Ninja turtles cartoon, (though, I still enjoy it),
 
Well, I did say "at least". I say that because it's a little hard to tell in some spots, especially given the low video quality. There may be a few corners cut here and there for budgetary reasons. But while it's not quite Reign, it doesn't look internet-cheap; that's the gist of what I was saying.
 
Yeah, I think if this had been shown in a higher resolution, it'd eclipse a lot of what's on tv these days. Good fun all around, I was surprised by the stray bullet that killed the pidgeon outside the window - I can't remember the last time I saw animals caught in the crossfire.
 
Pretty cool. The action sequences were a lot of fun and the character designs weren't as distractingly ugly as Chung's other stuff (If you can ignore the torpedo boobs, that is). I'd love to see these on DVD or as an extra in an upcoming Tomb Raider game because these shorts would probably look a lot better on a decent size screen.

And did anyone else laugh hysterically at the meeting of the evil religious leaders in part two? :D
 
Just watched the first three shorts, 'Keys of the Kingdom' by Peter Chung, and I loved it.

Nome nice action bits and Chung's hyper-kinetic style show through here quite nicely. He also throws in some quick comedic bits, such as the pigeon and the goons stopping mid-battle to pay respects to a deity. The quiet scene with Lara looking at her rescuer and the the ankh was great. You can see what she's thinking without any dialog.

While a slower episode then the first, I liked it better. I watched this first at work and some of the lines had me laughing out loud, especially the 'one true god' comment.

Nice finish to this story. The 'Heaven' scenes were great and I love the commentary of all the religion zealots seeing their 'individual gods' and the fighting between the sects.

All in all, I loved the episodes. Minnie Driver is great as Lara's voice. It'll be interesting series to see all these different takes on Lara.

  1. Will this be the official thread on the Revisioned: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider or just for the Peter Chung version?
  2. Also any word on some Hi-Def versions or even the lo-res DVD version, or is these tiny movies just the only way to enjoy them?
 
Actually, Aeon Flux was an accident. He'd made the pilot not really expecting it to be accepted. Kinda odd as MTv Animation was accepting pretty much what ever came through the door at that time. tHen they had to figure out how to make more episodes after having killed the main character, "Ok, let's just kill her at the end of every episode"

I only saw a one commersial and was sure if it was a game or what. But thought, "you'd think CN could get at least some good shows like this". I guess I'll have to take the time and load this.

looks like it's going to take far to long to just end up loosing it.
 
1) Since more Tomb Raider short films are coming up, I'll go ahead and rename the thread to be more general.
2) I haven't heard anything yet, but it sure would be nice, especially if all short films were released on one DVD. I mean, the Peter Chung shorts alone total about 20 minutes, give or take, so if the others coming up were roughly the same (5-7 min.), they'd have enough material.

A comedic romp this time around. Some of the comedy was a little lacking in my opinion. The character designs are good, but it does take some getting used to. Lara does sum up the entire episode very nicely with her final line.

I feel that the three part 'Keys of the Kingdom' episodes may become the Achilles' heel of the series. The wonderful animation and tone of 'Keys' set the bar so high out of the gate, it'll be hard for future episodes to live up to it.

Next week, is the Warren Ellis episode 'Angel Spit - Part One'.
 
Return of the Aztec Mummy was dissapointing. It wasn't that funny, and what really hurt it was that it was animated in Flash.
If it was done in traditional style, it would've been a little bit more enjoyable.
 
Eh, I actually thought the "Revenge of the Mummy" short was all right- definitely not as good as "Keys of the Kingdom", but a fun diversion. No doubt it was different from Peter Chung's 3-parter, especially in tone, but given the last couple of comments I was expecting extremely poor animation from this. But I found it at least on the level of Harvey Birdman in some areas, and a few of the jokes were funny ("When you've played a role for so many years, part of the role stays with you.").

Though it could be argued that stoic Lara in such a cartoony short seemed out of place, especially in contrast to the two male leads' cartoonish, exaggerated designs, I felt they handled it well by making Lara rise above their antics, such as in the chase scene when she goes off to the side and basically says "Well this is pointless."
