gagging, choking

I rarely get sick (maybe once a year). Am 51, good health, 5' 9. Got a stomach virus about 8 months ago. Since then I have a constant gagging/choking feeling. Some Phlegm but not much. No rash, swollen glands, redness, sore throat, heartburn, fever. everything normal, Just gagging/choking feeling. Doc tried a nasal spray, then suggested mucinex. now has me on prilosec. Next step is throat specialist. Last week or two have been severe. Doc doesn't seem to be overly concerned

The throat specialist is a good idea. There are many, many things it could be - hopefully your appt is soon!

Maybe a pulled throat muscle aggravated by the stomach flu?

Other maybes; Uvulitis (but your doc would have seen it), GERD, sinusitis w/o nasal involvement, an esophageal web or stricture, hiatal hernia, a thyroid disorder, tonsil stones, or Zenker's diverticulum (tho you're a bit young for that?) and I'm sure there are more.

Good luck with your appt, waiting can be the worst part.

Aloha stevec1023!

I just wanted to rein force AuntieLeelas' reply and say she pretty much covered all the "maybe's" out there.

Isn't it aggravating to have a doctor that doesn't seem concerned about something that is a BIG concern to you? I've been in chronic pain for 12 years and have had 3 failed spine surgeries. For the first 18 months of this ordeal, I also had a doctor who simply didn't seem to think or care about just how serious my condition was!

Doctors can be so cold to us at the worst times. Some of them simply don't realize how important it is that they should always at least "ACT" concerned about thier patients. I'd seriously consider changing doctors if this one is your regular doctor. If s/he doesn't seemed concerned about something you ARE, you may not get the proper treatment for anything that really may be quite serious. That's what kind of happened to me in the beginning of my spine problems and now I'm permanently disabled. GRRRRRR...

Aloha For Now,
Kimo
