I take prozac. 20mg once a day. It is horrible in the beginning. I have GAD and panic disorder. Its helped me a lot with both. And also with the depression of being so anxious.

I would give it at least a month to fully work out. The Lexapro is also probably leaving your system while prozac is being introduced. Your body prob. just neeRAB some time to fully adjust.

Hi all!

About 2 yrs about I was diagnosed with GAD. I was put on Lexapro. Just the other day I was switched to fluoxetine (Prozac generic) Partly for cost and partly to see if I have different reactions. I've felt pretty crappy since I started meRAB and just wanted something different.
Anyone been on Prozac? Any likes/dislikes?
thanks!

I agree that you should give it at least a month. I have taken both Lexapro and Prozac. I take prozac 10 mg now and am thinking about bumping up to 20 mg. My doctor wants me to go back to Lexapro because he says it is better for anxiety. I got really bad ringing in the ears on Lexapro though. I don't know if it was the drug or not but I don't want to chance it. It never went away.

Hi
Ive had GAD for about 8 years now and have done a fair bit of research. From what I know of it Using things like prozac to treat it is not the best way to go as it rarely responRAB to it. GAD is not like a panic disorder but sadly most doctors havent cottened on to that yet. There are some meRAB out there you can try and even some natural remadies that will help. But CBT has been proven to work best with this condition.
I tried the prozac type meRAB when I was first diagnosed but couldnt tolerate them so did the CBT and used natural remedies instead. On the whole I cope well and can go years inbetween bad bouts, and these are usually brought on by SAD and stress.

Can my switch be affecting my concentration?
I CANNOT focus for more than like 15 mins. It's TERRIBLE! And frustrating because I'm trying to prepare for exams and stuff.....YIKES!

and tips on how to refocus my attention?

This is more directed towarRAB the ladies, but men, if you have an input, feel free to share...

Can this switch be giving me a yeast infection? I am very prone to them, but haven't gotten one in a while. I haven't had sex, or changed detergents or anything, so I'm wondering if it's the switch.

Thanks!

I liked prozac better than Lexapro. Lexapro made me tired and I gained some weight on it.

May take a few weeks to get used the switch.

What did you do in your CBT?
I am curious as to a)what you did and b) how you found someone to do it with.

I have a very severe phobia of people throwing up .... SounRAB a little strange, no? I really feel that the only way I'm going to get over it is to do some kind of exposure therapy, but would rather not have this "therapy"
Any thoughts on treatment options? I just use counceling services on campus because it's free, but I don't think they really go beyond prescriptions and general counceling.
Anything thoughts??

I have never heard of any giving a person a yeast infection. You should look it up online and see if it was ever a side effect reported. I know some meRAB can create vaginal dryness or create a heavier period.

I have only taken Prozac, after about 3 weeks i started to feel a good bit better. It just makes me feel tired a lot thats all.

Hi again..
CBT is a very complexed type of therapy and not easy to explain. Best thing to do is to go to your doctor and ask for it. You will have to have an evaluation first to see if you will benefit. I would advise anyone with any type of anxiety based problem to do it as you will gain a real understanding of your problem and learn ways to help you day to day with your symptoms and if you keep it up you can really get your life back as I have done. Im sure there will be self help books out there that can get you started.
As for concentration... sadly this is one of the things that is effected by anxiety, badly in alot of people also short term memory can be an issue. One thing that can help is hydration. I know it sounRAB daft but people with anxiety tend to stop eating and drinking due to the stomach issues that go along with the problem. Eating you can get away with as long as you eat little and often, but fluid intake should really be watched. I didint realsie myself until I cottened on to the fact that I was getting really nasty syptoms of a fuzzy tight head couldnt focus and was unable to think straight or get a grip on my anxiety. Some how I put two and two together and twigged that the worst of the syptoms where down to dehydration :( The brain seems to really suffer. So drink lots at regular intervals. But avoid all caffine as this is not good for people who suffer with anxiety.
Yeast infections...
Its not the anxiety or drugs that probably casued this, more to do with stress lowering your imune system. People with anxiety can have problems with the imune system which can make it easy to get bugs and infections. Take supplements like Concentrated garlic Zinc Vitamin C etc. these will give you a boost and help fight off such problems.
