G2 or iPhone 4?

Ok, I don't know if there is anywhere else to post this, but I am trying to decide between the G2 and the iPhone 3GS (I don't care about the VGA front facing camera of iPhone 4, so I'll be happy with 3GS). I know the G2 doesnt have the 1ghz processor like the droid x but the new 800mhz is still fast (and it can be overclocked) I was one of the few to buy the original G1 and I loved it but the fact that u cant install apps to SD made me jump ship (since the G1 had such limited space) I had the new iPod and I loved the sharp and clear screen. The bare-bone vanilla looks awesome and I'm used to pure Android experience like the G1. I hate the fact that at&t offers just 2GB of data. Which one do you think is better?

Difficult question to answer - there is no "better" really. Looks like you're on AT&T - personally I can't imagine a phone so good that I'd be willing lose 3G data. So in your situation, I'd go for iPhone or an Android device which does work on AT&T's 3G network. Unless you're holding out for a G2 that does work:

I started with an iPhone 4 and returned it for a Captivate and am very happy. I liked the pretty & polished iPhone experience but prefer the customization of Android.

Personally I can't think of any compelling reason to get a iPhone 3gs over the G2. The G2 comes with 2.2 which should allow you to install apps to the sd card.

Now I'm a little confused by what you are asking for. If you're planning on using the G2 on ATT then I guess the 3gs would be the better option because at least you'd get 3G.

The G2 will have a better display than the 3gs. Not sure what apps you have on the ipod but you might want to make sure you can find a comparable app for Android still.

OP, really only you can decide what is best for you. Cell phones are so personal and everyone uses them differently, making nothing the best. This forum is obviously going to have an android slant. A few of the replies here have mentioned the 3GS might be better because of 3G data on ATT. I also am interested in the G2, but lack of ATT 3G makes it a non starter. (I have a ATT microcell in my office and house and without 3G Id be stuck).

Keep in mind that the newly announced HTC Desire Z, Americas version IS the G2 with the proper frequencies that ATT uses. It will officially be sold by Bell Mobility in Canada, but will work on ATT 3G network. I have it on my radar.

+1 @ CarlGalgano... Everyone is different. Thats like asking what shoes are the best... everyone has different tastes/lifestyles, so there is no "best"

In my opinion tho, G2 beats out the icrap, due to speed and being open-source. Though there isnt alot you can do with the G2 at the moment, but you really dont seem like the modding type to me. Why dont you give us a list of your "needs/wants" and we could better assist you from there.

Help, is it true the Iphone is slower than the G2?

I was so excited to buy the new iphone that i went looking on youtube for some reviews and stumbled on several speed tests. Is it really true that the tmobile G2 is much faster than the iphone? I'm not sure if it is true and not sure what to believe.

The video shows a speed test at the end along with a review of the new G2 phone, but what I found interesting is the comments posted by customers of the competing phones. It seems the video has steered up a debate between the speeds of the G2 and the Iphone. I suppose it really is about the two different services; however, it isn't possible to get the iphone in t-mobile.

first you need to ask yourself do i want fast or do i want everything to work together?
not sure if the g2 is faster, if it is that, go for g2. but if you're like me and want every
thing to meld together like the ecosystem of apple, then go for the iphone 4 on tmo.
if you have mobileme, itunes, iphone4 will still be fine on tmo, but at edge speed.
i have an iphone 3gs unlocked on tmo as backup, an hd2 for sheer 3g/hsdpa/tethering.

Hrm... well you ask in the title if the Iphone 4 is better than the G2, then say you'd be fine with an Iphone 3GS?

Here's the thing, if you're going Iphone don't bother with the 3GS. From various reviews i've read (from Apple fans) the new iOS4 loaded on the 3GS destroys the battery life.

The G2's processor is comparable with the Iphone4's hummingbird processor, however the Iphone 4 might run games slightly better.

If you like customizing at all and QWERTY full keybord = G2
If you like more options for game apps = Iphone4

Other than that there's not a huge amount seperating the G2 and the Iphone4... oh and G2 can run flash with Android 2.2, no Flash on Iphones.

I have a couple of apps that are in the marketplace like slacker radio, pandora, angrybirds. I am on another carrier besides att n tmo n its sucks, yup, you guess it metropieceofsh*t lol I was happy with it till now but I get no service where I live now. I am realllllyyyy leaning towards the G2 because in all honesty, I don't think that 2GB of data is enough for me so the 5GB is more appealing since I stream music, videos, download a lot (when I had the G1 and unlimited data) I was just wondering if the G2 would get the new and upcoming upgrades from google if it only has an 800MHz processor even though they say it's "next-gen"

Yes. The processor will run the next update fine and possibly the one after. It has allready been temp overclocked to 1.4 GHz, it's fast fast.

The A4 and the Hummingbird are nearly the same processor built by the same company...

If it's a decision between the iPhone 3GS and the G2, then you want the G2. On T-Mobile, you can get very fast 3G speeds, and the hardware is just newer. Plus, since you're on stock Android, you shouldn't get screwed with OS updates the way that most Android phones are.

Now if it was the iPhone 4 versus the G2, that'd be a different story. The performance is closer, and of course the display is awesome. It's just a more pleasant device to use as a whole.

It's up to you to decide. The best way is to use them for a little, 5 minutes will be enough. Does anyone of your friends have such phone? If no, just go to the shop and test it for a couple of minutes This always works for me if I need to choose between two devices
