G1 won't start

kissable?

my G1 phone just won't start... when I'm trying to charge it I see the green led - so the battery is fine. but it won't load up (black screen) before I had that problem - I could see the screen but with no back-light...
anyone?

How about you be more helpful.
Stock?
Rooted?
Open Eclair rom?
Hero Rom?

Running OSX on your Android?
etc.

I got the black screen + green LED when I applied a basic Hero rom.
Was a pain, just wiped and flashed back to a normal rom.

sorry but I don't know...
I bought it from someone on eBay that told me it was locked (Stock..)
but it wasn't locked.. I could use it without a SIM card. (but with no back light and the touchscreen won't work too)
so the guy who sold me that don't no what he his talking about

Sounds like it's been bricked during a custom firmware installation.

If you hold down the home button while powering up the phone (keep it pressed for a while), does it boot into the recovery mode?

I have to disagree here. Both the sticker on my battery and my partner's is exactly the same as shown in the OP's picture. It's like a chessboard with alternate white and red squares. I believe it goes all one solid red colour if it gets wet (the white squares turn red). Neither my phone nor my partner's has been anywhere remotely near getting water damage.

I still agree with sorting it out through eBay, if it doesn't work then it doens't work - return it, get a refund, etc.

UPDATE : I've just came back from the lab and they told me that the battery is fine and the litle white sticker inside (not the one on the battery) is still white so it's not water damage -
anyone have another idea what can it be?

[the phone is dead - not functioning at all - only when i'm charging there is the green led - beside that no response at all! not even for restart/safe mode/recovery ]

about returning it to the seller - that would be my last option - I bought it from the US and I live in Europe so I'm going to loose 30$ for shipping it back

If none of the boot modifiers work (holding down other buttons while powering it up) then it's either bricked - probably due to a dodgy rooting attempt or custom firmware install, or possibly even a broken OTA update. There is no way to recover form this.

That does assume you've never got it to power up properly. I forget if you said you had or not.

If it's an intermittent fault (it powers up OK sometimes), then it's a hardware fault (hardware damage, water ingress, etc).

You have two choices:

1) It's probably under warranty still - most G1s are under a year old still. You could give HTC a call and see what your options are. Some people have had success with HTC simply swapping the handset for a brand new one, even though it was bought on eBay.

2) Return it to the seller.
