Hey there,

I installed Cupcake yesterday manually, and everything was working fine. I rebooted a few times, and my phone was fine. Now, when I rebooted my phone, it won't get past the new Android boot screen and just keeps flashing the letters over, and won't boot up

What should I do? I really don't want to lose my contacts at the moment :/

Not all of my contacts from my phone are synced with google yet, so even if I had to factory wipe, I'd lose a lot of new contacts :?

What's the proper way of reflashing my firmware? I have update.zip on my SD card still.

ya dont worry reflashing your firmwire wont erase your contacts or anything...

Same way you were trying to update your phone, shut it down, hold down the home button n the power button until you get the yellow triangle, and follow the steps from there, and see if that works

3. Turn the phone off, then hold the home button while holding the power button

4. You will see a yellow triangle pop up on the screen, NOW hold ALT and PRESS L then press ALT and S

5. You will see the file extracting on your phone and doing the update, press the HOME AND BACK button when it tells you to do so.

6. After that it will say that its installing the radio update

7. The phone will reboot about twice and you will see the new android startup graphics, the phone will be stuck there for about 2 mins or so, be patient then when your phones comes back on, YOU HAVE CUPCAKE!!!

~Tell me what you think about the process

ANY HELP THROUGH THE PROCESS, DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK!!

~IF YOU HAVE ROOT ...YOU "WILL" LOSE IT!!

~WHEN UPDATING TO CUPCAKE, YOU WONT LOSE ANY MESSAGES, PICTURES, APPS, ETC...

Alright, doing that. I got to the triangle, did alt + l, saw blue text with various alt commands I could perform, did alt S and now I have yellow text behind the update b ar going, I see:

"E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

and all the update information below it. I never saw this stuff before when I updated cupcake manually before

Writing radio image when hit home and back to reset, now see a box and an arrow going into a phone

After that, saw tmobile g1, some box and a bar flashed on quickly, went off, back to Tmobile G1, waited about 15 seconds, now I'm seeing Android logo and it's just doing the animation

ya your getting it than, right now that arrow point to the rom is going to go away and reboot your phone and everything is going good by the way i hear it hopefully...

1. Rename the archive to update

2. Copy the file to the SD Card.
Note : Connect the phone to desktop and then transfer the file. Don't take out the SD card and use the card reader.

3. Turn off the phone. Press and hold HOME and POWER button. The phone will start in recovery mode. You should see an exclaimation sign when it starts.

4. Press Alt + L, it will take you to the boot menu,

5. Press Alt + S, to start the update process. It will take a while so be patient.

6. When the update completes, it will prompt you to press HOME + BACK to reboot.

7 . After you reboot, the update will finalize and automatically reboot.

Alright, been at least 15 minutes, and the android logo is just flashing the letters, gets to a point, stops and then the screen for a millisecond or so just goes black and the re-loads the Android logo and it keeps doing it in an endless cycle

Umm well just wait for a couple more minutes and see what happens because seems like you have it done already but hasnt boot up completely yet...

Yeah, same thing keeps happening with the Android logo. I noticed when I first updated the first time I got the image of the yellow arrow going onto a chip or something, like above, but this time around, I didn't get to that point.

Should I reattempt the update or what now? Thanks for your help, btw

ya it wont hurt to redo the whole process again, maybe this time it might work or you can try to download the other file and see if that helps

Going to try and reupdate it like the same method before.. I can't put any other update.zip or anything on the SD because I can't get into the phone to mount the memory card

I've had the update and got everything working OK, and then I rebooted earlier today, and it just went to the Android logo and keeps repeating, and won't get back into the system, all the sudden.
