G1 vs other android phones - which is best?

I had a G1 since it first came out...it was rooted and it was my baby. Unfortunately my boyfriend decided to leave it on a shelf while browsing through magazines at a store. So now I'm in the market for a new one (phone not boyfriend lol) and I was wondering which new phones are best.

I have Tmobile, but an unlocked phone would work.

One thing I really would like is to have one with a full keyboard. Its hard to give that up

The Nexus One and in several of days T-Mo will have the Samsung Vibrant.

The N1 is an easy phone to root, who knows about the Samsung.

What makes the Nexus One so good though? I've browsed through other threads and I've heard a lot of raving for the nexus one, but never really anything specific that makes it better than any other phone..

I still have a G1 and it makes the old G1 seem like a snail. It has a 1Ghz snapdragon processor, a beautiful screen and since it was sold by Google it is first to get all the latest upgrades. As far as I know it's the only phone running stock froyo now. The only thing some might not like is the lack of a physical keyboard.

If you have to have a keyboard, then either get a Motorola Droid (also called the Milestone outside of the US), or wait to see if the Samsung Galaxy S Pro or Epic or whatever it'll be called ever comes out. To be honest the Droid/Milestone is a little old now.

If you like rooting and the latest and greatest ROMs, go with the Nexus One.

If you want the current best phone on the market, it's the Samsung Galaxy S.

I still have my G1, and can't upgrade for another couple of weeks. I've tried just about every Android phone out there over the past few months, and the super screen on the Samsung Galaxy S (which is the best in its class), combined with the fastest touch screen in the world, and super-fast graphics processor just means it flies along.

I tried typing really fast on the Samsung Galaxy S touch keyboard, and I can honestly type just as fast. With a bit of practice I think I could type faster than a physical keyboard because it corrects my typos very well and you don't have to push the keys until it clicks, which takes extra time. Also it has Swype, which is the virtual keyboard that was used to break the world record for fastest typing of a text message on a mobile phone. Woah! Thats pretty cool. Idk if I need that ridiculously awesome of a phone. I'm kind of in a crunch and I'm not sure how long I can wait. The only backup phone I have is the OLD nokia brick, and even it is starting to fade.

How is samsung in comparison with HTC. I've had HTC phones for the past 3 years now and they've always been great.

The Samsung is a good phone and should get froyo before the end of the year. The only thing is it doesn't run vanilla android, it runs Touch Wiz, which is a form sense ui.

Thanks for the link! Hmm.. Not sure I'm a fan of that interface. Might be leaning toward the nexus one for now...

I'm also considering the my touch slide though. Its cheap and I can walk into the store and get it today. Any cons to that one?

If you're with T-Mobile and want a phone now that has a good keyboard, get the Mytouch Slide. It's a solid phone that does everything you need it to. The rest of these phones are "Sometime in the future". The Mytouch is the best thing with T-Mobile right now that has a keyboard.

if you must have a keyboard, the mytouch slide is the best right now (as kitsunisan said). it's not a very powerful phone, so i personally would steer clear. i'd pick the n1. huge dev support. and i feel like you should give up the need for a hard keyboard eventually. i've been using a sidekick and g1 for the past two year (didn't have texting or anything before, so i never learned to type on t9 or anything), but it's clearly evident that phones in the future are going to be all touchscreen.

as for the htc-samsung discussion, i'm a big fan of htc. they've always been really innovative--even back to the days of the dash and touchpro, they were ahead of the game. the hardware tends to be really sturdy; i can't remember where, but there were tests involving the n1 like having it thrown around in a tumbler, and it still worked fine.

Wow! Yeah my G1 was practically indestructable. I never put a case on it and that phone has hit pavement more times than any phone deserves to, yet it never failed me. My boyfriend has a MotoCLIQ and he dropped it ONE time and cracked the entire bottome half of the screen making spiderweb cracks.

I had insurance on my G1 so I'm going to see if there is any way I can get the N1 at a discount or if I might have to settle for the mytouch slide
