G1 texting problems-my keypad keeps making up messages!

Hi guys! This is my first post-I did a search, and I didn't see anything similar, so I hope this hasn't been posted.

Everytime I text using the qwerty, my phone starts typing weird letters. It acts almost as if it's in Alt mode (or the up arrow mode, whichever)-but I never hit the Alt key! For instance, today I'm having problem with the space bar-I typed I (space) and as soon as I hit the space key, the phone vibrates and it types out JGHL and a symbol (the cursor is the top arrow pointing down like you see in the arrow up mode, but I never touched the key). It all depends on the day as to what key won't work. I usually play around hitting Alt and the arrow key repeatedly then to try and make it text normally, but it won't. I tried to do the factory reset, that didn't help. I keep checking my texting settings to see if there's a weird text setting, but I can't find anything.

Can anyone help? this is driving me nuts!

How old is your G1, and has this problem recently started? Has it being getting worse over time?
 
Thanks so much for the welcome! My G1 is justtt over a year old (right out of warranty-yay! haha)The problem started in the past few weeks, and yes it's gotten continually worse. When it first started I could play around with the keyboard and after a few minutes get it to type normally-after 10 minutes straight today; i finally just called the person i wanted to text.
 
Yeah - You see if the virtual keyboard works OK, then it's likely to be the keyboard that has deteriorated over time - this is supported by the fact it's getting worse over time. All keyboards are susceptible to moisture (including natural body sweat while in your pocket), and general wear and tear.
