Hi all, i have a G1. I just got a system update today.
I thought it was 2.0 or 2.1 so i checked the forum and noticed no one else posted it. I checked the "More info" on the update and it's still 1.6.. but it says it'll improve call performance, whatever that means.

oh wells thought i'd share.

i just got it, and now my phone is stuck at the tmobile g1 screen, i removed the battery and put it back in, still stuck....

Update: just wiped my phone and tried to do a fresh boot, still stuck, i think tmobile just bricked my phone

Also got the dmd64 update on my G1. It is a call performance update that is being rolled out to a test group at this time. All android users will eventually be getting the update if it proves sucessful, but at this time it is only being suplied to a test market. I am in Iowa and need it desperately, I will keep you updated as to if it makes a difference.

I suspect this is the radio update. There was one leaked a week or so ago on the internet that supposedly improves signal quality and reception, thus giving you "more bars" on your signal meter.

...specifically this radio hack. http://androidandme.com/2010/03/news/android-hacks-improve-reception-for-g1-and-mytouch3g/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+androidandme+%28Android+and+Me%29

You might find some more details about how they did it there.

i dont think your phone is bricked. you were able to wipe so its definately not bricked. you have to reupdate your rom manually or give tmobile a call to yell at them. probably be faster to reupdate manually.

Yea i yelled at them at 4 in the morning, all they would tell me was that there sending me a replacement, i hafta wait 6 days, they were tryin to charge me for the expedited shipping...

that sucks! it seems like a certain percentage of phones get soft bricked during ota updates. you can fix this by manually reupdating, so its not a true brick. but, to the average person its a brick, since most dont know that you can manually update.

yea i have the original 1.5 on my sim card, ive grown tired of the g1 to the point i dont even wanna update it anymore lol, so i just threw my sim card in my old sidekick slide till my replacement comes in, but yea..it defintally soft bricked it, im assuming this is just the call quality update, anyone know how much it improves call quality?

u might can get it for th 179, my g1 was acting up n they gave me an early upgrade to a cliq, tell them u want an early upgrade now so u can get it for 179. retention might make it happen, just act like uready to leave lol

Does anyone here know how to reflash the update? The update seemed to have corrupted my Android Market...

See my thread here: http://rabroad.com/forums/f41/android-market-not-installed-32880/

you need to download it to your sdcard(main part), rename it update.zip. power off the phone, power on holding the power and home buttons to boot into recovery, press alt+L to bring up the console, press alt+s to update, then reboot.

Got it here in Malibu (tonight), an area of notoriously terrible reception. First thing I noticed was much better wifi reception. Hard to tell because network reception is so hit & miss here, but indeed it does look like I am getting better network... then, it could be that last martini. Running a G1.
