I just got the bill for my life flight today.

Brett and I decided to guess before we opened it. I said $3,000 knowing I was probably underguessing. He said $5,000.

$17,000.

SEVEN TEEN. Thousand. Dollars.

Holy fucking shitcock.

As far as we still know, he didn't have insurance. My bills are piling up more and more, and after my next surgeries and a year or so of physical therapy our estimate is around $75,000 total. I have $50,000 in uninsured motorists coverage that I'll get from my own insurance. I can't talk about anything else though because I officially have a lawyer, and I don't want someone to somehow come across this forum and all of that jazz. Anyone seriously interested in any progress from here on out can PM me, but we'll put it this way: my lawyer says it really is going to be a battle, just like I predicted.

God I hate my life. Lawyer even said that I would have been set had he had insurance; my settlement would have been huge. And I didn't want it for greedy reasons, if I did get a huge settlement I was gonna pay off all of Brett's and my own debt, build a nice house, get us both a reliable car, and go back to school full time. Totally down the toilet.

I don't even know how to start to reply to something like this..other than, I'm just crying now. I feel so sad for you, if there was some way I could help..:hug2:

Bathory, you call them. You let them know what you are going to be able to pay be it $5.00 a month or what ever. You, also, let them know you have an attorney. Another thing you can do is call your attorney and find out if he will be handling them. Sometimes the attorney will want you to turn them over to them so they can notify the debtors that you have a pending lawsuit and payment is waived till it is settled.

Call your attorney first get his advice then call them. They can't suck blood out of a turnip. It's in their best interest to work with you. Also, it benefits you or anyone in any situation to call promptly to work something out rather than ignore it.

I use to work in finance and collections. There are many avenues you can take.

Honestly, a real friend would have mentioned having a few drinks before offering an intentionally (though not to my knowledge) high-speed spin around a mall. When I talked to the person he had taken a ride before me, I could totally read the look in his eyes: "I'm so glad that wasn't me." He said the same things I said about him leaning the bike too low around turns and just general reckless driving.

Lioness: Yeah my lawyer said to forward my bills to him and he'd contact them to let them know about the situation. :) It just scared the shit outta me.

I know, baby doll. After my husbands accident, we had bills that nearly totaled half a million dollars. He spent a month in ICU (three weeks of that he was unconscious), two weeks on the floor in the hospital, a month in Jim Thorpe Rehab for his brain injury and then had two more surgeries on his leg as well as his physical, speech and occupational therapy for two years plus the counseling. (he was flown by helicopter as well.)

The bills don't matter. What matters is that you are alive and have the ability to recover fully. Hand that crap over to the attorney and don't think twice about it. If they call you, you give them his number. Legally, they can't call you after that.

Holy shit hun, Im sorry. I know the calnder fund thingy wont really put a dent in that, but maybe it can make day to day a little easier, that said LADIES GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR.

Every single bit counts. We're getting low in general. We had to pull our emergency money out to pay our bills. Emergency money started at $1000 and is almost gone. I called my school loans and they're put on hold, hopefully we can get bretts put on hold too. Then our only bills will be rent, my cell phone, internet, and my insurance in October. I pay 6 months up front because its cheaper, so I'm hoping that we can pull $550 out of our ass by October 28th so that i don't have to pay $109 a month instead. Saving that $100 will matter.

I don't really know what to say - except you have my heart felt sympathy.

(And good luck).

System in UK is to financially rape you 'way before any incident' then call the money you may/may have not spent 'the National Health Service' ... the amounts quoted here (by you and Lioness) are excessive by any standards.

I hope things work out for you as this all seems wrong to me.. different countries different systems but when push --> shove it's money/legal/stress..
