look at the link below to get the futuredial cable you need at the lowest price i"ve ever seen...they are $2.95 and about $5 shipping...these are the ones you need to build your shadowmite cable...

if they sell out then just go to the sites homepage as they have more than one futuredial cable with the chip...this is just the link to one of them on this site...

yeah...i ordered a few of them for $10 and then they went down like a week later...the price is so good i had to post it...the futuredial site sells them for $30...i don't know wtf that's all about, but you sell your own product for 10 times what the comp is selling it for...hmmmm
 
Lol, I just ordered one thats a good price. I use my serial box to do Treos but it will be nice to carry a simple usb one around now. Thanks for the link man.

also- below is the link to shadowmite's instructions so you can all see how to build if you don't know and a link to pinouts.ru for your treo pinouts (#7, #8, #10)...all treos (650-755) have the same pinout and diag interface, so this cable will work.

...and yes, where shadowmite says to connect treo rx to prolific tx that is what he means...you have to connect tx to rx and rx to tx so that the transmit on the chip goes to the receive on the treo and vise versa...

each wire should only be soldered to 1 pin, and any cable with all of the pins will due.

if you use pinouts.ru note that the diagram should start at "1" instead of "G" for the position to be correct.

to test it once you're done done hit ##8778 (or power on holding the side button), fire up hyperterminal set to 115200 8-N-1 Hardware, and try sending "?" to list commanRAB.
 
Thanks for the reply. I was going to order a T5 cable from ebay but didnt know if there was a difference in the amount of pins between the hotsync cable and the usb charging cable.
 
get the cheap $0.50 generic cable...but any cable will do b/c you can easily move the pins around...

you only need 3 pins...7, 8 and 10...the tx goes to rx and the rx goes to tx...super simple...i cut all other wires short and remove any pins close to the 7, 8, 10...

if you put your treo face up and start from the left side of the pins, you can count on the main pin strip from left to right and get to 7, 8 & 10 that way...you dont really need a diagram...the pl2303 chip has a side with more contacts than the other...with that side up and facing you, you will need the #1 (tx), and #4 (rx) points and the ground which is on the bottom of the chip...chip #1(tx) goes to treo #7(rx)...chip #4(rx) goes to treo #8(tx)...and the chip's ground (whatever color wire is not on the front of the chip) goes to the treo #10(gnd).

don't use this site for cables anymore...i called them on the phone and ordered every cable they have with the prolific chip in it...there were only 12 left...

not sure if you read my last post, but this site is out of cables cables containing the prolific chip...they will not be ordering any more...please do not order cables as they will not be shipped.
