Futurama's Move: New Beginning?

Many people watch and enjoy Futurama, but is Adult Swim really the best place for it? AS rarely breaks 1 million viewers and basically never reaches 2 million. But Comedy Central brings in far more viewers and airs AS maturity level shows at much more watchable times, and a show like Futurama will probably demand a primetime spot (ie 6-9).

My point: I know that Futurama will get far more viewers on Comedy Central, especially if it is placed in a primetime spot. But, could the amount of viewers be enough to bring Futurama back from cancellation? And seeing that so many voice actors, writers(?), and staff have come back to make the Futurama movies, there is a great chance that Futurama will have the ability to go back into production.

My question: Do you think it will happen?

Futurama has gotten good ratings on Adult Swim, so I think Futurama has the potential to be a hit on Comedy Central as well. And usually viewership is an important part of getting a show back for another season, so yes, I believe the amount of viewers could possibly bring back Futurama for another season, though it all comes down to the creators' choice.

I suppose this basically "Futurama- The OVA's", if they're making 4 of them.

Now, is this a good thing? I'd say yes. But remember, Futurama has only been shown in reruns on Adult Swim. We don't, and probably will never know what ratings new episodes/OVA's/whatever would have scored otherwise.

At the very least, the timeslot will be much more favorable.

Another question: Is it likely that Comedy Central will soon look into buying ALL of the Futurama reruns, as they've only purchased the 4 new movies as of now? Doing this plus the movies would be one of the biggest purchases in TV history.

They already got the airing rights to the reruns next year. That's why Adult Swim is doing Futurama marathons this year: They're losing the license.

I have to admit. I'm not too excited about the "new" episodes, considering they're just movies cut into bits. The movies thrill the heck out of me, though.

Do you think that Futurama rerusn will do well on CC? And does anyone think they'll do that well if everyone's already seen them a hundred times already?

Well, up to this point, the ONLY place to catch Futurama has been Adult Swim, with the occassional late night showing on TBS. It hasn't been shoved in our faces as much as Family Guy has (Between syndication, Fox's revival, TBS and Adult Swim)

The show will never get old to me, and I know of others that agree. Futurama's humor differs from Family Guy a lot, though. Futurama's jokes have a lot of life to them, whereas Family Guy has fewer jokes like that, especially post-cancellation. There are some good jokes in FG that live on, but I think as a whole, Futurama has better quality rerun potential.

I think that if there's enough advertising, there's a chance for great ratings, but not sure on that. What's all this talk of it being on during primetime hours, though? That seems odd to me.

That's on average, though. Because they don't have to deal with crappy daytime programming. If other networks only had to program for a third of the day, there'd probably be more competition for AS's title.

I can't wait. I'll definately watch it every night if it is on in a good timeslot between 4pm and 8pm would be good! :zoidberg:
