Futurama - "The Mutants Are Revolting" - Talkback [9/2]

It was a pretty good episode, and a good place to end the season (I'll miss having new episodes for awhile,though....Since Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood took a break,Futurama's the only show I've been watching on TV)...
I liked....

Bender's party, and his later realization that the party was meaningless without his friends (and Zoidberg :D.....I loved that the picture that Bender has of the Planet Express crew has everyone front and center except for Zoidberg, who's waving from the back)...

Fry accidently blurting out that Leela was a mutant, which ended up getting her sent to the sewers (along with the rest of the crew minus Bender, when they revealed they knew about Leela)...

Fry mutating himself for Leela so he could experience what a mutant's life was like...Everyone's grossed out reactions to Fry's mutated self were funny as well... (I was curious as to how they were going to get him back to normal....turns out,he wasn't actually mutated,he ended up in the mouth of the mutated Mr. Aster)....

and Leela meets an old mutant survivor of the Land Titanic, saved by Mr. Aster, who turns out to be her maternal grandmother...

I think it was an okay episode. There were better episodes this season, but overall, I still call the 'return' season of Futurama a success. Lots more to praise than complain about by far, so I'm happy.

I found it weird they did another 'Titanic' thing, after they pulled a more straight-laced space version of it way back in Season One. But I kinda accepted it, since it resulted in a smaller plot thread connected to the episode's climax.

Oh, and when Bender throws a party, he throws a party. Was there anybody NOT there (other than the rest of the Planet Express crew)? So many faces...

I have to say the season finale was great. I enjoyed the part where Bender needed a running jump so he backed up all the way around the planet and over the bridge he needed to cross then ran back across it and went around the planet again and jumped the bridge. I felt bad for Leela when Fry told Mrs. Aster that she was a mutant and was dropped into the sewer. Zoidberg floating down Mary Poppins style was funny to see. Fry becoming a mutant for Leela was very nice of him even though he didn't end up actually being a mutant at the end. It's good that the mutants have equal rights now. I can't believe Futurama has made 100 episodes! I wonder if when the next season begins that mutants might be living on the surface?

One thing I really like about post-revival "Futurama" is that the writers aren't afraid to change long-standing institutions about the show. First, Nibbler's secret identity was revealed, then dark matter was rendered worthless, then Fry and Leela officially became a couple, and now the mutants have become accepted as equal citizens among the surface-dwellers. All this stuff results in a much wider possibility of episode ideas, and it shows that the staff understands how to keep the show from becoming stale. Good job!

Yeah, of all the new episodes I was only, "meh" about one of them, which was the Leondaro Da Vinci episode.

All others were great. Humor hasn't been lost, characters are still good.
