Production Order: Season 6, Episode 13

Writer: Michael Rowe

A holiday special airs tonight at 10 PM Eastern, closing out the seventh season. Here is the synopsis:

Good thing that segment was non canon. I wonder if that whole thing was Santa's plan from the start?

Funny thing is, that segment seemed more suited for a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode.

EDIT:
Okay, that was strike two. You know this episode isn't looking to be the best of the new season. If you ask me, they should've had the Hanukkah Zombie in that one.

What does it say that I thought that the Earth blowing up was the least darkest of the three endings?

The ending of "Jurassic Bark" looks upbeat, by comparison.

Continuity nods? You mean all those pointless shout-outs crammed into a half hour? This is my problem with Futurama now. It's confusing references to earlier episodes with actual clever, intelligent writing. Was it necessary for Al Gore to be in every segment? Barbados Slim isn't funny. Why does he keep coming back? Space bees again? Usually I'm a really big defender of this show and I do enjoy it very much, but this episode went beyond mediocre. I'd say it was probably one of the worst Futurama episodes I've ever seen.

I agree, Barbados Slim isn't funny and his constant reappearances are beyond tired. If you ask me, he never should've been seen beyond his first appearance in "Bend Her". For that matter, I wish the show's writers would retire Santa-Bot as well; his shtick hasn't been funny or necessary since "A Tale of Two Santas".

As for this episode, once again I'm in agreement with Darth; I'm still a big fan of Futurama and I usually try to defend the show whenever possible, but this installment was just weak. Concluding every single segment with a "the crew and/or the Earth is screwed" ending just smacked of lazy writing to me.

Why should that be appreciated? Continuity nods aren't a substitute for funny jokes and clever writing. Frankly, I couldn't care less about continuity nods if the jokes attached to them aren't funny, or even worse, if there's no joke at all, just a "look, we're mentioning this thing again!" reference. References aren't jokes and shouldn't be used as a substitute for jokes. I don't appreciate forced "humor" which relies solely on familiarity and nothing else. It's a cheap shortcut to a laugh and again it's unforgivably lazy. If I have to choose between continuity nods and well-written, funny jokes, I'll take the jokes.

Well, that was an utter piece of pig doo.

I couldn't even finish the damn thing. Switched over to Venture and never looked back, and I don't regret it.

I hate to admit I tuned in and was utterly lost at what was going on.

Any chance this will rerun soon? I might be able to understand the jokes the second time around.

I don't know why my sister thought this special was hilarious. Maybe she liked seeing the Planet Express crew die in every segment. Unofrtunately, I didn't.

I have to agree with everyone else: there weren't really any good jokes in this episode, and the musical scenes weren't even good(and I'm a sucker for those scenes).

I'm going to go on record and say this is probably the single worst episode of the entire series with almost no redeeming value. There are several weak episodes of Futurama, but all of them are worth watching for one reason or another. This one was outright awful.
