Futurama - "The Duh-Vinci Code" - Talkback [7/15]

Another good episode of new Futurama. It was definitely a turn of events to find out Leonardo Da Vinci is an alien and considered stupid on his home planet. It seemed like after Farnsworth and Fry blasted off Bender and Leela didn't even bother to follow them.

I can't believe Fry fell into the doomsday device and stopped it with his back. It was nice to see Fry and Farnsworth actually start to get along in the ending.

I loved the line, "Didn't we used to be a delivery company?"

I give this one a 10 out of 10.

Are the new episodes of Futurama airing in Canada?

This ep was a "meh" for me, and it seemed to focus on two things that I think have been hindering the writing staff in S6; the pop culture stuff and the question of Fry's stupidity. The pop culture jokes feel stiff and dated, and the randomness and centrality of it remind me of FG... not a comparison I like doing. As for Fry's stupidity, yes, I know, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer... but here it's just way too much and way too relentless.

The episode itself was okay; the first act was pretty good but the ep seemed to gradually fall apart until totally collapsing in act 3. I appreciate where they were going with the twist of da Vinci as an idiot alien, but it feels so random and forced that the effect was lost for me.

That being said, the portrayal of The Last Supper in Groening's style, and the attention to detail and authenticity, was amazing. For me, the best part of the ep.
