Futurama has been picked up for a sixth season of 26 episodes for Comedy Central

I'll be happy if these new episodes match up to the quality of the original episodes, like some others have expressed. :D

Oh, and it would it be so hilarious if the show ended up on some other network instead of FOX for the broadcast runs!:p

According to IGN.com:

So there is a good chance this show could still end up back on FOX.

Well, good. This was probably the point of the DTV's.

I just hope the show holds onto the wit and clever writing that its fans love it for. It has a much more substantive foundation compared to the likes of Family Guy, so it'll be really disappointing if it ends up being phoned in at any point.

I did enjoy the 1-2 DTV's I saw though, so I'm hopeful that this will be nice while it lasts.

Well, you obviously didn't see the post I was replying to, who said that only FOX can order more episodes, which isn't true. Yes, Fox has the option to air them, but Comedy Central (Paramount) is footing the bill...

How come it took this long to renew Futurama? Adult Swim could have easily funded the episodes. They fund the Boondocks, Venture Brothers and are the highest rated cable network late at night. Comedy Central must be really rolling in the dough right now to be able to produce the episodes. I'm a bit surprised because Comedy Central was the same network that cancelled Drawn Together because of its high production costs. But maybe Fox is helping fund these episodes too?

Awesome. I've always loved Futurama, its humor was a lot more subtle than Family Guys' and reminds me more of the earlier Simpsons episodes.
I'd be fine with just watching reruns, but it's cool they're getting new episodes. As long as they don't go down the road of so many other shows that have been canceled and then brought back.

Now that Viacom has the airing rights to Futurama, is it out of the question for Futurama to return one day to Adult Swim?? That'd be sweet.

I highly doubt they'll be airing on Fox. The four movies didn't air on Fox, and I don't think the show is returning to that network anytime soon.
