Futurama has been picked up for a sixth season of 26 episodes for Comedy Central

Fox or Comedy Central, I guess it would be nice to have Futurama back, provided the series doesn't suffer from Post-Revival Degeneration Disease.

The movies didn't really click with me all that much, but I think that's because Futurama doesn't really lend itself to extended storylines. I think the show works best in 30-minute increments. If the writers were to stay away from movie-length plots with the new episodes, it could, repeat, could work.

Shouldn't that be "Good news, everyone"? :anime:

Hmmm...I don't know how I feel about this news. I wasn't a huge fan of Futurama overall...yet I'm a big fan of certain episodes, such as "Luck of the Fryish", "The Sting", "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings", and "Leela's Homeworld". Thus, if the series does return, I'll certainly take a look at it.

After Bender's Big Score, I can tell the writers wanted to get back to episodic format. I'd be cool with a 6th season if it was better than the previous 2 movies.

Same here. The main thing that I felt the movies suffered from was trying to draw one story out over 90 minutes - The Beast With a Billion Backs, the worst of the movies, earned that status for being poorly paced and loaded with plot holes. These characters are much better suited to episodic installments.

I agree with the sentiments about the series working better in small chunks. The writers tried way too hard to make the films epic and, in my opinion, failed. I just hope they haven't lost their touch writing regular episodes.

Yeah, I caught that too. "Everybody" just sounds off when said aloud. One syllable too many.

I agree with most of what has been said in this thread, and I think that they are probably capable of getting back to writing quality episodes, assuming this news is true and that the writers are still available. I did enjoy the DTVs for the most part. Fingers crossed.

Not surprised, but wanted an order of more episodes. Episodic format is the writer's forte. The only good movie, IMO, was Bender's Big Score. After that - bleh!

Personally,I'd be happy to see more Futurama episodes,as long as they don't end up like "Beast With A Billion Backs",which,IMO,was the worst of the series...I actually loved the other three movies,so I'd still be happy to see more of the characters...Perhaps the writers would do better with half-hour episodes, than the four "movies"...

I welcome this rumor and hope it turns into fact. Futurama is, I think, my favorite of the "sitcom" style animated series (i.e Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park...) so I'd love more episodes.

I'd be cool with 13 separate episodes, as I really just want more stories in that universe.

This report doesn't make any sense. How can Comedy Central order new episodes, when they only have the Cable syndication rights to the show?

It would have to be FOX that orders new episodes, not comedy central.

^Wrong. FOX does not have the rights to air episodes, and nor does it have the sole power to order episodes. FOX (the network) cancelled the show, so Comedy Central has the right away to order more episodes from FOX Studios (the production company)...
