fusion (L4-S1) and doctor did not say back brace

I will be having a fusion at L5-S1 and a disc replacement at L4-L5 with an anterior approach. The neurosurgeon said there was no brace fitting and I will be in hospital a week he said. I am not sure what to expect as it may be a little different to a two level fusion but I have suffered from chronic pain for the last 10 years and have had sciatica about 18 months. The last 6 weeks I have had a lot of trouble walking as my left leg is much effected now. I can't walk very far now so I decided it was time to do something serious about it. As my insurance doesn't kick in until Noveraber my surgery is the 25th. I am going in to a private hospital and hope to be treated better than if I had to go public and I would be waiting much longer. I have a very good surgeon so I really hope I don't have to many problems but I do understand it is risky surgery but after 10 years I can't go on the way it is now. I will be watching this thread and will certainly let you guys know how things go.

I also am hoping that I will be given the soft type of brace like a kidney belt. I have seen pictures of them at the other major spine surgery web site and also on videos of people in recovery. I had also seen advice about holding a pillow against your stomach on the incision site so maybe that type have something to do with that as well? Someone here may have experienced that.
