Could not see a thread for this film - just mentioned it in another what is the best horror movie thread!
Anyone seen the remake yet with Naomi Watts?
The original in my opinion is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I really like the original. Will get around to seeing the remake but definitely will not have the same effect. It's shot for shot almost, and from the same director as the original. What's the point?

I'm supposed to be off to see this tonight, although I'm not looking forward to it. I've heard great things about the original, but I've heard nothing but bad about this remake. I hope it turns out to be worth watching. Anybody had a spy of it yet?

The original's been on Film Four often enough. Always struck me as a very amateurish effort, with bad acting and worse direction.

It's supposed to be exactly the same, but in English. Which is a good thing. Not the most entertaining of films, but that's not the point of it. :)

Mark Kermode reviewed it on The Culture Show and said it was worth seeing, if you hadn't seen the original.

I saw this at the London Film Festival back in October when Naomi Watts and Brady Corbet attended the screening and were introduced on the stage just before the film started.

Barring a few minor changes it's a shot-for-shot remake of the original, but for me it has lost none of its power. I still felt like I'd been put through the wringer by the end of it! Naomi Watts is superb.

I don't think I've seen a crueller, colder and more clinical film.

I ended up giving it a miss, was too late getting up to go :p

Was more looking forward to going because we were gonna see Son of Rambow afterwarRAB...

Oh well, maybe next time

Just bought the Original on DVD today from Amazon. Seen it on Channel 4 years & years ago. Was one seriously shocking and brutal movie indeed.

Dunno how the re-make holRAB up to the Original. Heard lots of good reviews though. Will get around to seeing it eventually.

I thought the original was stunning. I've never been as angry watching a film as I was at a certain infamous moment and I think that was the point. I'll watch this new version too though I do wonder what exactly the guy is trying to achieve with a shot-by-shot remake.

I saw this film at the weekend and thought it was ok. Certainly a film I won't forget in a hurry. A lot of the people in the cinema was sighing constantly and looking bored but I quite liked it. The scene where
Michael pitt uses the remote control to rewind time
completely threw me. It was totally unexpected, as was the
casual dispatch of Naomi Watts.
After reading Total Films review of the film AFTER seeing the movie I appreciated Funny Games US a lot more. The only thing I didn't like was
the scene where Naomi watts was tied up and trying to get from one part of the room to another...it dragged on for too long
. I think it's best to see this film after reading up on it, I would have enjoyed it a lot more having known there was a message to it all.

is that
when they casually drop Naomi Watts into the sea? it happened so fast i actually missed them push her in.
.

I liked this film because
the cavalry never came, all hope was lost and even when Watts took the fight to them, they immediately turned the tables around, using a remote control of all things to correct that hiccup. The knife on the boat (dropped into the boat by the young lad) was never used, the neighbours never came around like you expected, and the one character you thought may just make it out alive (the boy) was offed first.

Im not a religious person.

However I prayed to God tonight to give me the 2 hours back of my life that has been totally wasted by watching this "film"

In simple terms this film was a bag of

i remember seeing the original years ago. in many respects it probably isn't a great movie, but in others it's quite unlike most films - insomuch as the power it had to draw you in, and actually be genuinely shocking.

not sure if i'll see the remake, but if it's unchanged (unlike the vanishing), then that's something - plus the cast looks pretty good.

This was the worst film that i have ever seen! It had crap actors, a crap storyline and bored me to tears not to mention offending me at the same time!
