Funnel cloud

I was just napping a bit ago, peacefully enjoying my slumber before getting ready for work... I didn't even know it was raining.

I hopped on my computer to check weather.com to see what the forecast for tonight and tomorrow was, and what do I see?

"TORNADO WARNING ISSUED FOR MIDDLETOWN OHIO."

Not even a minute later the tornado sirens started going off. I turned on the tv and they said a funnel cloud had been spotted on the county line.

Which is right where I'm at.

So I ran outside to secure the barn doors, lightning flashing and thunder booming loudly as I got drenched by a torrential downpour. I look up and what do I see?

"Oh, hi there mister funnel cloud. Please don't fuck my shit up, I'd really quite rather not die, thank you very much."

They just showed another picture on TV of another tornado/funnel cloud nearby. There was a BP in the foreground of the picture. I looked closer, and it just so happened to be the BP that I frequent on my breaks at work to grab a bite to eat and a pop.

So I called to work and apparently everyone there's freaking out.

And apparently they're expecting these storms to last several more hours.

Fucking lovely.

Holy shit. As much as I want to actually see a tornado in real life, what happened to you is definately not the circumstances I would like to see one.

I remember when I was working midnights back in Decemeber and it went from being really cold to really warm. Anyways I went to bed around 9 am after work and woke up at about 1:30 that afternoon due to the noise from the strong winds. I get up completely out of it, turn on the tv and what did I see but a tornado graphic and the words tornado warning flashing on screen. What sucked though was at the time my apartment had no real underground area to take cover.

Just out of curiosity how big was the funnel cloud?

Tornadoes scare the fuck out of me. Fascinating to watch, but I so don't envy your position.

Seriously though, good luck! I hope no serious damage happened and you as well as everything you care about are ok after that!!!

Man... you should see how the people reacted here in louisiana when we had a few tornados and water spouts off the lake.

We were in a building... and mother fuckers where like "im gonna go outside and see if I can see it." Then some jackass sparked fear into most everyone by saying "we'll probably be sucked out into the street at most... screw this im driving home." So lots of people decided to leave... when several tornados had been spotted within blocks.

People are teh suck.

Anyway... hope your barn doors didnt get all jacked up.

Like Bitch, I'm also scared of tornadoes. It's probably the only natural disaster that I'm thoroughly freaked out by. I can deal with hurricanes (I normally sleep through them), but tornadoes? Fuck that noise.

I think it has something to do with the fact that my dad used to MAKE me watch those tornado stories on the weather channel, and I've actually seen one destroying crap when I was younger.

So yeah. Not good memories. I'm trying to get over it, but it still freaks me out when the sirens start going off.

:toocool:Dude you got balls enough to load a dumptruck!:toocool:

My ass would be in a hidey hole rather than on the puter. Hope all yer shit's OK.

i am pants shittingly alert right now because we are having some funky storms going on...and this thread describes my perfect nightmare (minus the barn...) but i have 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 birds...not to mention the fish (but they aren't as important to me) so who would i be able to save first? /me shudders. the dogs and 1 cat live in the house...so i would lock them in the basement and then i guess face my worst nightmare as i go to the garage to get the other cats? my dad would have to get the birds...they are biting bastards...

i seriously hope that nothing happens here.

how did everything pan out for you ferengi? i sure hope everything was okay...

all is well so far but i have a feeling it is going to be a very stormy night.

living thinking there is going to be a tornado is scary as hell at least for me. it kinda makes me think of all the bad things that could happen like what would disappear if the roof blew off, would our cars still be there when it was over? and if they were there, would the windows be blown out? what could happen to the neighbors? would i get sucked out? is my family okay? how about my best friend? every question i could possibly think runs through my head.

i have no idea what one sounds like and i NEVER want to know. ever. a few years ago we had tornado like winds come through and rip a ton of trees out of the ground and stuff like that and it just sounded like a lot of wind and a lot of shit crashing to the ground. NOT FUN.

The funnel cloud that I saw never touched down, however there was a confirmed tornado touchdown in the nearby town of Wilmington. It actually touched down within sight of the National Weather Service center there - they could look out their windows there and see it.

It's supposed to be stormy tonight but so far all the bad shit seems to be going north of me, thankfully.

What cracks me up is here they have tornado drills at the schools and where I work, but the closest tornado I know of was 10 miles east of here. North, east, rarely south, but never here....I better shut up before
Ma Nature smites my ass.

Yeah, hurricanes can be fun... It depends on how big they are. Where were you that you went through a hurricane JLXC?

The worst hurricane I've ever experienced personally was hurricane Marilyn, a category 2 hurricane when it hit us. That's a pretty tame hurricane, but it still ripped the roof off my mother's gallery, and carried it half a block away where it took down a telephone pole. I guarantee you would not want to be outside in a category 4 or 5.

I came to this island about a year after Hugo completely ravaged it. People who were here for it have told me that there was not a leaf on any tree, and not a blade of grass on the ground. It completely destroyed over 2 thirds of the palm trees here. There was wreckage and ruins of houses everywhere, even a year later when I arrived. One person told me of a tree in their yard that had been brought down by a piece of corrugated tin roofing that came off a house. In the leftover stump, you could see the rippled pattern like a ruffles potato chip from the corrugated. Think about the forces required to slice clean through a tree trunk with a pie ce of corrugated sheet metal, and then let's talk about how much "fun" it would be to go outside in the middle of that.

I've seen funnel clouds over the ocean, but I've never seen one touch down and become a waterspout. It is something I'd like to see. Waterspouts are relatively safe as long as you're watching them from dry land... Although I guess it does occasionally rain fish nearby.
