Funimation's Slayers Revolution site/Revolution dub speculation

I'm not sure if anyone has posted about this already; but Funimation has put up an official Slayers Revolution page! The page doesn't say much now, but it does have some interesting new information. For instance, the Funimation site has revealed that Wizer’s city is going to be called “Luvinagard” in the official sub/dub. The Luvinagard thing is going to be weird to get used to since every article about Revoultion thus far has spelled it “Ruvinagard”.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to use this new information as a springboard to speculate about which actors will be cast for all the new characters. It'll give us Slayers nuts something to do while we wait for the 2010 release date.

Here’s my list (I’m going to assume Funi will use it’s regular actors for the new characters):

Wizer Frion - R. Bruce Elliot: I usually hate to typecast; but Elliot is a riot as the goofy detective Richard Moore on Case Closed and I can’t help imagining his voice when I think of Wizer.

Pocota – Greg Ayers or Aaron Dismuke: I think Ayers would be perfect for this role. He can sound very young (he convincingly played a 10-year-old in Negima), but at the same time give Pocota an edge.

I also think it would be cool if Aaron Dismuke got to play Pocota because that character so radically different from the one he’s famous for (Alphonse Elric). The only problem is that Dismuke is really young (I think he’s 13 or 14 now) and his voice might change during the production of the dub. So I doubt he’d get the part.

Ozel – Monica Rial: I bet Monica Rial will get this part because she always seems to get cast as the quiet, mysterious girls.

Giocanda – Tiffany Grant: I’d like to see Tiffany Grant get this part just because Giocanda is a ridiculous character and Grant is really good at doing ridiculous, over the top stuff.

Sylphiel –Laura Bailey: Since Sylphiel’s original VA seems to be retired; Funimation is going to have to recast her. I really hope Laura Bailey gets the part. Her voice is sweet without being too high and chirpy like most female anime VAs (both American and Japanese).

Zuuma –Andy McAvin or Eric Vale: McAvin and Vale both have the “creepy voice” thing down pat. So I’m betting one of them will get the role.

Duclis –Jason Douglas: I’d pick Douglas because he has a strong voice but he doesn’t sound too old. However, this pick might have something to do with the fact that I just finished watching Rune Soldier.

For some reason I've always pegged Luci Christian as Pocota, especially if FUNi decides to bring back all the original voice cast (which I hope they do).

Yeah, his voice changed a good 2 years ago. It's DEEP now. Apparently it was already beginning to crack during recording of the FMA movie. He still sounRAB young enough to play teenagers, of course, but from what I've heard of Pocota/Pokota, he wouldn't fit the bill . Unless, of course, they didn't mind the character sounding older than his Japanese counterpart.

At this point, all I can think about is that we get all of the original cast back (or at least as many as possible), especially for Lina and Gourry.

Personally, I think if they plan to get the original cast back, they may be doing it where they just have the dub recorded in NY entirely, since most of the original voice actors are still there. It would be easier than having to fly all of them to Texas.

I have a strange feeling they'll have NYAV Post handle the dub but there'll be many Texas-based actors directed over the phone, the same way Third was handled with LA-based actors and Huntik: Secrets And Seekers' dub is currently being handled.

I bet funi will wait till the last minute to announce that the offical actors will be the ones who dubbed the first 3 seasons.

Exactly. If over-the-phone dubbing worked well enough, do you really think Sean Schemmel would have flew back to Texas for the redub of DBZ Seasons 1 and 2? If Kyle Hebert was still normally doing stuff for FUNimation, he wouldn't only be doing it during times where he's back visiting his family and frienRAB. Over-the-phone is extremeley difficult when, you know, you have to match the lip-flaps and all. Anyway, I still stand where I say that they may just use the NY VA pool exclusively with NYAVPost handling the dubbing, for the most part, because it would be the easiest if they really wanted the original cast back.

I assumed that Funimation would use its own actors for new characters and direct the New York actors over the phone because they've done that for other shows (Scott McNeil in FMA and Lisa Ortiz for Blue Gender). But, now that I think about it, it probably would be way too hard to do that with 4-6 actors on the same show.

I want to make a fantasy casting list with the NYAV actors now! But I haven't seen a lot of their recent work (since CPM crurabled, its mostly 4KiRAB junk), so I don't really know which actors besides Ortiz and Co. are still active on the VA scene.

Wait...how is ADR any different than what Huntik is doing? Shouldn't the fact that that particular dub has managed it to the extent it has (four of its regulars are from L.A., including Yuri Lowenthal) imply that it now "works well enough"?

Actually, Scott McNeill and Lisa Ortiz did not record over the phone, afaik. They did come to Texas to record for those. In fact, Scott McNeill apparently only did that role in FMA because he happened to be in the area.

But then again in regarRAB to redubbing, if ADV was able to bring back Jocelyn Loewen, Trevor Devall, Brad Swaile, and Lisa-Ann Beley when they dubbed Nurse Witch Komugi, I'm sure it'd be no problem for FUNi to at least bring back the main cast (or at least the main four) for Slayers.

Okay guys.
Remeraber Tenchi OAV 3 and the miracle that Funi pulled off with that, many of the VA's were AWOL before they dubbed it and the only shortcoming was they couldn't get Ryoko's VA back (which sucks but given how Ryoko has less prominence in that OAV compared to everything that came before it's a forgivable omission). My point is the reason were getting a prolonged DVD release (not until 2010) is possibly because they are making the effort to reunite the dub cast so it can have continuity with the previous three boxsets they released.
