Funimation To Release Dragonball Season 1 in September!?

Raki posted this at Daizex:

Episode 31 is the filler episode where Shu dresses up like Goku and infiltrates Ox King's mansion to try to steal the Dragon Ball from the cooked chicken. Just a little FYI. If this is true, the set contains all of the Pilaf and Tournament sagas, and three filler episodes from the beginning of the Red Ribbon Army saga. Which is exactly what they did with Season 1 of DBZ (had three filler episodes from the beginning of the Namek saga).

Ah, so that in the 600-700 minute realm, too.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeerry interesting.

Predictions:

Season Two: 32-68 (36 episodes)
Season Three: 69-101 (32 episodes)
Season Four: 102-132 (30 episodes)
Season Five: 133-153 (20 episodes)

Although...those last two are just really screwy...

Well, you can basically split up some of those filler episodes. They're actually considered part of the Piccolo Jr. Saga by FUNimation, but Goku is still a child so they also fit in well with the King Piccolo Saga. Episodes 123 - 132 are filler episodes of Goku's training before the big battle between Teen Goku and Piccolo Jr. FUNimation can split those any which way. I'd probably be best to go with 25 episodes each for those last two sets.

It occured to me I could split, but then the narrative would be a little wonky. It's less likely, but if the last set were to package the films...

...yeah, not happening.

It could happen. After all, the DBGT set did have the DBGT movie in it, and with DB having only 3 movies, it seems much more likely.

Also, I think I have finally figured out why FUNi is releasing this in Septeraber. Does anyone else happen to remeraber that DB Evolution is supposed to come to DVD and Blu Ray around that same time?

The GT "movie" that was included, wasn't a movie at all. It was a TV Special. Kind of like History of Trunks or Bardock: Father of Goku. Evolution is coming out in late July... So I don't think that's happening (I can't wait for that one either ).

However, that Dragon Ball game, Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo might be coming out around the same time... Does anybody know when that game's slated for release?

Interesting that the first Dragon Ball set will include what FUNi originally counted as the first few episodes of The Red Ribbon Army saga. I was expecting it to end with episode 28, which is the end of the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai (World Martial Arts Tournament).

Wow, here's the trailer for Dragon Ball Season 1!:

Note that the footage appears to be kept in it's original Fullscreen aspect ratio! I don't know whether the footage itself has been remastered, though.

LOL And it still hasn't been confirmed by FUNimation yet? Wow.

I pray the set has the bells and whistles we never got with the other series. Correct openings and closings, full credits, previews, etc. I doubt it, but one can dream.

Argh, its so tempting to pick these up now that its confirmed to be in 4:3. Maybe I'll wait for the inevitable Kai release so I can DBZ in a somewhat decent quality before I buy these.

Despite my own qualms about the quality of the DBZ sets, it is pretty amazing that we're this close to finally getting all of the Dragon Ball franchise released uncut and with bilingual audio. That in of itself is quite an accomplishment after all these years.

Well, that all but confirms it. I'm totally getting these sets. Heck, at this rate, I might as well just get the rest of the DBZ-ones as well, just to have it all, even if I hate the cropping.

Man - 4:3, and the remastering doesn't look half bad. If I can get it cheap, I'll DEFINITELY be picking this up. I've always preferred Dragonball to Z, anyways.
