Funimation To Release Dragonball Season 1 in September!?

So where did Wal-Mart get the information that FUNimation is going to release the boxset of Dragon Ball in Septeraber? Someone can lose their job over a quagmire like this.

Oh, and Chibigoku, your avatar fits the situation perfectly.

I saw FUNimation at Anime Next this weekend, and they indeed clearly stated that what was posted on Walmart about Dragon Ball Season 1 being released was incorrect. They also stated that they STILL don't have the rights to release the first 13 episodes.

Part of doing biz with Wal-Mart means you have to deal with their hardcore SKU system: http://www.enhancedretailsolutions.com/pdfs/ERS%20In-Stock%20Case%20Study.pdf I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of how this leaked.

Well, I hope the doofus that did put up that page on Wal-Mart gets a good lesson on flipping burgers. Because that's where he'll be for getting everyone's hopes up on this.

See, I disagree. I think the colors look more elaborate and vibrant. They are deep in tone, and darker colors look good. The original picture really showed its age at times, especially during the Vegeta and Freezer sagas, whereas the remastering looked fantastic. Not just that, but a lot of scenes, especially during the Raditz arc, were so full of grain and what not. Finally, the oranges in the series always looked faded to me, as did the pink on Majin Boo, whereas the new sets seemed to have corrected those issues. I did wish that Funi had color corrected Vegeta and Nappa during their first appearance though, as Vegeta with brown hair and green armor is not right at all.

I'd really like this to be true. While I may not buy it (still working on getting all of Z), I definitely want to see it again w/o widescreen if possible.

Except that's not how the footage is meant to be seen.

Here's some comparisons from the DBOX and the remastered Season Two set:

All FUNimation did was damage very old footage more so than it already was. Just look at those Season Two pictures.

While their process got slightly better in the later sets, the darkening of the colors is still tampering with the footage.

EDIT:

The digital artist likes highlights.

I really like how you compared the absolute worst shots of the Season Sets. You wouldn't want people think it looked okay by comparing regular shots.

Seriously, there are some pretty effed up shots like the ones you posted, but those are few and far between.

All right, that's enough you guys. We need to stay on topic here. Even if the Dragon Ball Season One set is legit (which is looking more and more likely everytime), we still don't know if it will get the same "forced widescreen" treatment the Dragon Ball Z sets got. I will say this, we should hope that, assuming it is legit, we do get the original full frame video since that is how the show was originally broadcast.

Once again, FUNi is expected to give a statement about it one way or the other at Anime Expo. Let's just wait until then.

I'll say it again the Wide Screen Doesn't really bother me since I have A Widescreen TV, But I Can understand how some People woulde be annoyed. But C'mon who cares if a small part of goku's hair is cut of or ifthe film isn't perfect. I realize forcing the show to be in Widescreen may have been a big nono. But that still doesn't change the fact that its Still Dragonball & Still Very enjoyable to watch. & I would Doubt Funit would Crop DB like they Did DBZ if they realized it made the fans so mad.

I did admit the process had improved, although I'm still personally irrated by blues becoming straight up black (like with Gohan's gi in Season Nine).

I would much prefer GT or even Season Nine's treatment over Season Two's, but right now we don't even know if the shows going to be remastered.

(Not to mention, but those were the only shots I could find).

Yeah, it's not a huge deal. I agree that fans WAY over react. But at the same time, it was completely and totally unnecessary to crop the footage. I understand both sides of the argument and I fall right in the middle. I don't mind it much, it does give it a more cinematic presentation, but I would have preferred to have that extra snip of hair or feet.

Nobody's going to die...except for FUNimation's sanity. I think FUNimation neeRAB to start having classes for these "uninformed" reps when it comes to dealing with conventioneers. Top of the list: "When you don't know the answer to a question, neither confirm nor deny it."

Otherwise, you're gonna have all sorts of critics going after FUNimation for "misinformation". The last thing we want FUNi to do is to stop attending panels because of being called out for contradictions.

Oh year, and auto DVNR for "remastering" still sucks.
