FUNimation Licensing Blitz Coming

ANN's Jason Green did a very nice overview of what Soul Eater is all about, I would strongly recommend it to the curious. For my part, I got a taste of it at Anime USA last fall and I can back up what he says about the tone of the show.

Yeah, I'm guessing that'll be the case, especially since FUNi didn't mess with Darker Than Black's Abingdon Boy's School OP.

And yes, I second checking out GWO's link. It has a good overview of the series for those of you interested.

I remeraber thinking, the first time I saw that opening, that it was too bad the actual in-show animation would rarely, if ever, live up to it. Granted, it'd be expensive as hell to fully hand-animate the backgrounRAB, so I wasn't expecting that, but everything else has been surprisingly up to snuff. The character designs are too stylized and detailed to lend themselves to the best possible animation, but as far as shounen action series go, it's been a pleasing visual production.

Also, whoever decided to go ahead and animate plaid must have been nuts.

Don't try and apply logic to this company when it comes to dubbing songs. This is the same company who dubbed the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT Openings/Endings but NOT the Dragon Ball Z ones. They didn't dub the first School Rurable ones but have the second. If anything, due to shounen catergory the show fits in, it's more likely that they will at least attempt to dub the songs.

For those who are just too lazy to scroll through the previous pages and see which series FUNi licensed during the ten days of announcements, here they are in the order which they were announced.

Ikki Tousen
Gad Guard
Vandread
Nabari No Ou
Last Exile
Oh! Edo Rocket
Count of Monte Cristo
Slayers Revolution/ Slayers Evolution-R (FUNi announced they have all 26 episodes of Revolution, yet it's divided between these two series)
Gungrave
Samurai Champloo
Soul Eater
Evangelion: 1.0

A qustion I have...What does everyone think the ooRAB of any of these AIring-or In champloo's & a few other case re-airing on TV Ecspecially Networks that many cable providers have like CN/AS or Sci-fi ? & wich one Seems the most likely to you?

Sci-Fi channel would definitely not pass up on EVA, and FUNI doesn't look too opposed to the idea if that happens.

I can see Last Exile and Count of Monte Cristo, too on Sci-fi.

AS, not too sure. Maybe if FUNI gives a cheap enough contract.

Honestly I don't see them airing on CN/ AS or Sci Fi, and people IT IS Sci Fi for the channel's name, for one big reason. CN/AS have seemed to stray away from anime and probably wouldn't want to get a new contract for Champloo. In the case of Ani-Monday, FUNi would have to sale the broadcasting rights to Manga. People keep mentioning the various BANDAI series that are airing on Sci Fi, but they are only airing there because they gave or sold the broadcasting rights to Manga Entertainment, which programs the entire Ani-Monday block. It's much more likely they'll air on IFC or possibly Spike TV (since they are going to air the sequel Afro Samurai series) than either of the two that would help them the most. As it is though, FUNimation Channel could be expanding into a lot more markets with the digital transition on February 19. Networks will have up to 9 channels now, and if they want more channels, they might go seeking FUNi Channel as one of them.
