FUNimation Licensing Blitz Coming

I thought Adult Swim had picked it up back in '03.

I'm not sure that it would have aired on Toonami, what with all the references to "live organ transplants", so to speak.
TV-MA, on the other hand...

Not a huge surprise. Ikki Tousen seemed to be one of Geneon's better selling titles, if the fact that they released it three times (singles -> complete collection -> thinpak collection) was any indicator.

Wuld've been nice if they had snatched Dragon Destiny away from Media Blasters, though, who has had the license since mid 2007 and still hasn't announced a first volume street date or even any dub info. Grr.

Ive never heard of Ikki Tousen...Looks interesting though...Might just have to rent it when it comes out.....Any who...I gotta say this is gonna be a pretty good Christmas break...Getting info on a new funi title every day till new years eve....what more could one want.

& ill say it again...No matter how unlikely...I really hope one of the Properites is New Dr. Slump. THen I would be one happy panda!

or if not I'd also Like to see an English Dub for Rosario+vampire...But yea...can't wait to see what suprises the next few days will bring!

Well the press release to me sounRAB like a distribution deal, with the license still being held by Geneon. Which, technically means it's not a "new license" and isn't technically part of the event.

I think they're just messing with us and will reveal two titles tomorrow. Either that or they'll save one for the 1st and blow us all away. =P

Yeah, the podcast said "announcements on new years", which implies they have more than one show to announce then. We'll see though.

It has to have some surprisingly strong sales to warrant this, and the fact that the PS2 fighting game is actually getting a US release.

----

Still waiting on a dang official word of when Evangelion 1.0 is getting released. I want my Blu-Ray release, you guys.

Nearly four years ago, an AS insider said that Toonami was going to get Vanguard and begin airing it in early 2005. Obviously, it never happened. My guess: Williams Street decided it was like trying to edit Outlaw Star's 23rd episode for the whole series and dropped it.

AS never ran Vanguard at all, much less 2003. Geneon didn't even have the rights until late 2004.

I'm getting kinda tired of people hoping that Soul Eater would be licenced.

No offence to Soul Eater fans, but I think it's a bit overrated.

And yes, the fact that the only new Funi show they licenced is the new Slayers makes me think that they aren't gonna immediately gonna rush in the new shows.

Considering that every year, new Lupin specials and OVA's are created and FUNimation hasn't bothered with any of them (which sucks, because "Episode 0" deserves a license), I doubt they bother with the TV series.

As for Tenchi, well I do want them to completely license-rescue that entire franchise but Geneon Japan I think pretty much killed that now that they are releasing the three movies on Blu-Ray w/ the English dub and subtitles (the U.S. and Japan are in the same BRD region). I do want FUNimation to score the OVA's for sure and give them brand new subtitles from scratch for accuracy.

Well, these latest Geneon grabs are true license-rescues and not just distribution deals. As such, FUNimation *could* resubtitle them and redub them if they wanted, but I doubt they spend the cash. I honestly think that FUNimation's main goal right now is getting content for the FUNimation Channel, which license rescues help with since they can be aired quite rapidly and DVD's put out in short order.

Less iffy than you might think because I hightly doubt FUNimation will redub anything. That said, should FUNimation license rescue Dragon Destiny from Media Blasters and score Great Guardians, I'm sure they'll get the same VA cast.

Yup. D.Gray-Man was licensed back in summer 2008 I believe. And the first box set will be coming out March 31, 2009.
