How long ago did FUNi announce they had this show, last spring? Nice to see that they are finally releasing this show. It's actually pretty rare that FUNi even releases any sports anime here. Maybe I'll check it out sometime.

And Jamie McGonnigal is in it? I know he was also in Beck, but how/why is he working in both NY and TX? I wish I had asked him about that at the NY Comic-Con...

He visits the area from time to time, I believe. I think it's mainly because he became frienRAB with a lot of voice actors from the cons he's been to. He mainly works in NY, though.

Nah, when he starts doing video game protagonists and does voices for American cartoons as well, then I'll start saying he's overused (Not insinuating any-yuri....I mean anybody)

Is this that baseball one with small yaoi subtext? Is it any good?

Don't all sports anime have some sort of yaoi subtext? I mean its all about teamwork and manliness and testosterone after all!

I'm looking forward to this one, I generally enjoy sports anime I just wish more of it was released here.

This one is only 26 episodes long? I thought it was still running? Or am I thinking of Major? Anyhoo, I like the 13-episode box idea.

Except maybe Ashita no Joe. Even though I'm sure there's some reason why Joe wasn't interested in Yoko.

Seriously though, from what I've seen Abe and Mihashi seem to be more than frienRAB/teammates.

Sorry to bump the thread, but rather than make a new one, I thought I'd mention that FUNimation has uploaded the 1st 4 dubbed episodes of Big Windup on Hulu:

I just watched the first episode on Hulu - FUNi did a GREAT job. One of my biggest problem with sports anime is how so many of the characters - being black-haired teenage boys in uniforms with one consistent style - seem so similar. And, at a glance, this team looked to have the same problem... but the voices are all so distinct! Greg Ayers has a great coolness as Abe, and Sean Michael Teague - though I immediately thought "KOENMA!" after his first lines - does a wonderful job with a wishy-washy wuss that barely remains in the "sympathetic, not annoying" territory. Also, Todd Haberkorn - who seems fairly new in "the biz," 'cause other than One Piece I haven't seen him anywhere - is wonderfully energetic as Yuichiro.

...and as a note, Cynthia Cranz's voice usually gives a "Ha-ha, scary lady!" air to her characters, but... jeez... it just makes the manager freakin' scary. I'll never look at oranges the same way.

But, yeah, definitely a winner. And with both Eyeshield 21 and Prince of Tennis's dubs dead in the water, I'll keep up with Big Windup! fo' sho'.

Todd Haberkorn has been a up and comer VA for Funimation for two or three years now. I believe I read someplace he started at Funi doing something behind the scenes and moved into voice acting but I might be confusing him with someone else. Anyway, he's played the lead characters in shows like Suzuka, XXXholics, Claymore, and Ouran HS Host Club (he's one of the twins) but I'm not surpised you've not heard him as much before. With the possible exception of Claymore, most of the shows he's been in are either less action based type of shows or shows that are less known to online anime fandom than something like One Piece.

Haberkorn was also a director on Claymore, so he does work behind the scenes a bunch.

Not to mention he was the host of the FUNi monthly podcast.

Neither will I. Cranz has the character down, though, she's one of the standouts in the cast, She makes me look forward to the manager appearing on the screen.
