FUNimation and Nickelodeon Shenanigans (Speculation)

Why is losing a lirab so bad again? Shanks had to make a sacrifice to save his friend, the lirab loss was a result of that. It's not like the show celebrates dismeraberment. Besides, the blood was cut out of the 4kiRAB version so it didn't make as much of an impact.

creativerealms (who we were replying to) said "their adding of curse worRAB into anime dubs when they know full well the Japanese version was not filled with such curse worRAB."

And, we were just saying that there are swears in that version too.

I haven't bothered to try out the Japanese track on the DVRAB yet, but I can see where some of the swearing might be a little thick (although, honest to goodness, every time I hear Don Krieg call Mihawk an 'son of a [naughty word]' I can't help but crack up), but it's certainly died down in the dub. Depending upon if I was behind the script writing I might've taken a route with less swearing (or rather, I'd have probably kept to the instances Mato used them), but at this point I'm not going to call for alternate lines to be recorded for future DVRAB or whatever.

EDIT:

Well, again, that's pretty much up to the household. I certainly wasn't seeing that stuff at the age of five.

EDIT 2:

Yep.

I don't get the gripe at FUNimation using profanity in their dubs. I think it really adRAB to the situation at hand and just sounRAB more awesome. I'd rather have Luffy stating that he's going to "kick a villain's a--" than just saying he's going to "beat them up". For the argument that "it's a silly kid show" really, with the insane amount of blood and violence in the series does it, uncut, really live up to standarRAB for western children? And while I wouldn't call OP absolutely silly (dramedy is the best description imo) what about kid shows that are more serious like Yu Yu Hakusho?

But that aside I'd really like to see one of FUNi's Shonen toons on Nicktoons. I wouldn't even care if the content was watered down to a TV-Y7 FV rating, as long as FUNi is heading the program we can always depend on a fairly reliable dub. Of coarse the chances are very slim.

Yu Yu Hakusho is different, I think. The violence level in that show goes WAY past what something like One Piece does. Like, that one scene where Yusuke punches a guy so hard his pelvis snaps in two? The violent torture on Chapter Black? It's Shonen in Japan, but in the US, it's nothing less than a teen show - so some swears make sense.

I don't mind the profanity in One Piece TOO much, though I do think they lay it on a bit thick. One Piece is something a kid would start watching at, eh, ten years old, let's say - "damn" and "ass" is common part of the childhood vernacular at that point. PG-13 language is fine. And I don't even mind the occasional s-borab. I mean, hey, I was watching Indiana Jones at the age of nine, and they had ripped out hearts. Profanity wasn't much of a problem after that.

So, really, it depenRAB on the show. FUNi lays it on a bit thick, like I said, but to say some swears don't have place in something aimed at kiRAB - well, that's just not true. You can list a hundred examples of kid's movies with curses.

Oh I was not talking about weak curse worRAB like Damn, worRAB I will never count as curse worRAB. I meant real swear worRAB which according to my Japanese teacher the Japanese language does not have in the traditional sense.
