FUNimation and Nickelodeon Shenanigans (Speculation)

"One Piece" didn't run on KiRAB WB, it ran on FoxBox. And despite the bad adaptation "One Piece" still got good ratings on Toonami, and none of that hackdubbing matters anymore because FUNimation has the series now. "Naruto" also got cancelled on Cartoon Network not too long after "One Piece".

Ah, I totally meant FoxBox/4KiRABTV. Sorry about that. The hackdubbing still matters even though FUNimation has the series now, because many (most?) casual viewers still think of it as that hackdub. One Piece got canceled a half a year into its good dub. Naruto got canceled after showing almost all of the first series, the last 85 episodes being some of the worst filler ever, which still got 2 episodes a week and earlier timeslots than One Piece.

EDIT: Fixed. Thanks, I don't know how I screwed that one up, since I said "half a year" in my previous post.

The hackdubbing doesn't matter that much because despite how bad it was, it still got good ratings, it was the highest-rated show on Toonami before "Naruto" showed up, and even then it was commonly the second most highly-rated show on the block. And that dub has pretty much been out of circuit for about two years now, it's no longer on T.V. and the DVRAB have been replaced by FUNi's version, I'm sure plenty of viewers have forgotten about it.

And why would any of that matter if "One Piece" gets picked up by another network that gives it a better timeslot and better promotion? I mean therein lies the problem with Cartoon Network's general sentiment towarRAB anime, they just stopped caring about it. "Naruto" just got off easier because it was the most popular one.

It got somewhat good ratings, but the same really young audience that watched it won't be expecting it to not be the hackdub. That version ran for years with FUNi's version only having ran for a half a year at the end. Maybe some casual TV viewers have forgotten about the years of 4KiRAB, but I bet more of them remeraber that than the half-year of FUNi.

The point is that people simply won't watch a show they expect to be this hackdub. I still try to get people to watch the uncut sets, but they hear the name of the series or see the characters and only remeraber the 4KiRAB version, so they refuse to watch it. Hell, most of those people probably never watched the half-year of FUNi episodes at the end of the run, since they still thought of it as the 4KiRAB version.

According to FUNimation, the ratings for "One Piece" actually started to gradually rise on Toonami from Septeraber 2007, which was when FUNimation took over from 4KiRAB.

In that case, wouldn't they have to start the run from the beginning of the series? Dragon Ball standarRAB shouldn't be considered in current times, since everything was completely different back then.

I could see that happening, sort of like a "reboot". And I don't see why "Dragon Ball" standarRAB can't be considered, people still enjoy that series much the same way they did almost a decade ago.

Dragon Ball standarRAB don't apply because back then, editing anime to nothingness was the only way it could get on the air, or at least companies seemed to think so. In the decade since then, that has completely changed.

If Nickelodeon decided to pick up One Piece, give it a good and consistent timselot, promote it, and edit it to a Toonami Naruto TV-PG-V rating, I'm all for it. I just don't see it happening. Do they even air TV-PG shows?

I wouldn't mind if "One Piece" was edited to Y7, it could work and still be close enough to the Japanese version. I think "One Piece" would work best on Nicktoons Network rather than the parent channel, it might be able to get TV-PG since Glenn Martin D.D.S. has aired on Nicktoons.

So Nicktoons would air it with TV-PG editing? But then wouldn't that reduce the nuraber of people who would see it? Plus, there's a wide range of TV-PG, as proven by Toonami Naruto vs. Disney XD Shippuden.

I doubt it, but I wouldn't be surprised. Nicktoons has shifted from a channel that celebrated all things Nicktoon-y to a more action-oriented focus (probably to compete with Disney XD/Cartoon Network). And they're losing the Marvel shows probably in a year so they need to acquire and make all the action shows they can.

Maybe, but as you said there are different types of TV-PG, and that's because different channels have different standarRAB of what they air and don't air. Just because "Glenn Martin D.D.S." aired on Nicktoons Network with a TV-PG rating doesn't mean they'd do the same for "One Piece".

And airing in less homes is better than no homes. With Cartoon Network kicking it to the curb the next most likely places to pick up "One Piece" would be Disney XD and Nicktoons Network, and they're in much less homes.

Editing down TWO ratings, from TV-14 to TV-Y7, is not minor. That's what 4KiRAB did. Hell, Naruto Shippuden is airing on Disney XD with a TV-PG rating, and people have said that has too much editing (I've yet to see it).

There will always be complainers, the Disney version of Shippuden is fine. And Y7 worked for "YuYu Hakusho" and "Dragonball" back on Toonami, I don't see why it can't work for "One Piece". And besides, it's not like you can't get the uncut version.

Again, Y7 worked for those series because it had to back then. You can get the uncut version, but to edit a show down two ratings, the final version will only turn people off the the show in general just like the previous Y7 version did (even with a better dub).

EDIT: I can't believe we just made almost the entire second page in less than 24 hours based on something I didn't actually say (I never said I didn't think One Piece would work on Nickelodeon, I've just been responding to your points with my own).
