Funi has Dragonball Kai (Confirmed)

I like Schemmel's Goku, but not to the point where I feel he's irreplaceable. If we're going to be sticking closer to the original version, I think somebody who sounRAB younger and more innocent would be a better Goku. Certainly not a female though, I love Masako Nozawa and her casting makes sense, but there is no reason to hire a woman to do adult Goku in an English Dragon Ball production.
 
I might rent some Kai out of curiosity to see what the new dub is like, but I only plan on purchasing the Dragon Boxes. A lot of the filler is enjoyable to me in a nostalgia sort of way, and it's easy enough for me to just skip the rest.

I certainly don't blame anyone who decides to go the other way.

I am quite surprised that Funi has decided to do both releases concurrently, though. You'd think they'd be worried about oversaturating the market / running out of new ways to rerelease DBZ once both are completely out. I can't help but wonder if they know something we don't.
 
Hmm, true. I never thought of it that way. From a marketing perspective, it could be thought of as Dragon Ball the original getting redone and this will just cover the Z portion.
 
I have no clue how Funi will be handling Kai's release, but so far the DragonBoxes look like the best deal for your buck.

I'm still going to hold out and wait to see how Kai will be released though. I like the show but not enough to essentially double dip on purchases.
 
There's going to be a vast difference in tone between the two series'. You'll essentially be going from 'modern' action series to old-school martial arts.


But if you don't mind having such big wholes in your collection...
 
Truthfully, I liked a lot of the filler in the Cell and Boo arcs. I thought at that point they got better with the filler. The fights weren't dragged on as long, the fillers arcs were condensed and we got some good stuff.

The only problem is Kai doesn't have Goku fall off the Snake path into Hell, yet I'm going to get to the Pikkon tournament in the Boo saga and see hell there. Ah well.
 
This is a weekly series. Of course they are rushing it and to me they are kinda making the good scenes look bad, I only watch because a couple of the scenes like the Gohan and Piccolo training episode and that the show is in HD and of course the faster experience.
 
I for one highly doubt that Chris Sabat won't keep Vegeta. He's iconically known for voicing Vegeta, and I'm sure there would be a fan outcry if he was recast.
 
Cyber, if you're not "hardcore" enough of a fan to get both, you're probably not "hardcore" enough to want to spend much, much time watching DragonBall Z. So I'd say the shortened DBZ would be better for you- DB Kai.

(I'm getting both, though.)
 
It's too late now, as the dubbing is likely almost complete, but I was hoping for a complete recast from the ground up. Unless the actors who kept their roles are changing the voices a bit. I pray that Freeza gets a new voice. I wouldn't mind hearing a new Goku as well.

The improved script is good news. No more Tien, please.
 
Well, he does voice Chatku in the PSP game.



Yarr, was off slaying the driver's ed dragon I was (and getting ready for it that is). Anyhow, I'll look into it, but I'm sure a move has already begun.



I trust the FBR, so if recording has been going on long who knows what's going to happen. I just pray to God there have been some form of recasts to spare my beloved characters, but I won't hold out on hold out for it.
 
I kinda agree. There's one scene in DBKai episode 16 that really killed it for me. Thats one of the reasons why I like more of the classic DBZ animation then the DBkai.
 
Well I do miss some of the filler, like in the Saiyan saga. I liked those training episodes.

I am also going to miss the Pikkon episodes in the Boo saga, I loved that tournament. It makes me sad knowing that will be cut.
 
Sabat can keep Recoome, he just neeRAB to change how he does his voice. First he did him like Schwarzanegger, which was awful, then he shifted to playing him like someone mentally handicapped, which was even worse. Similarly, he neeRAB to go back to the British Zarbon voice he had in the original dub of the Bardock special. No more of this "I'm too sexy for my shirt" voice. Zarbon's a narcassist, but he's still a competant villain, not some preening snob.

And Linda Young did a pretty good Freeza in his final form originally...it was just ruined by some of the most cringe-worthy dialogue EVER. Now the dialogue's gotten better, but Linda Young can't seem to voice Freeza in an effeminate-masculine way anymore. Now Freeza just sounRAB like a woman. So yeah, let's get a new Freeza (maybe even an actual guy this time!)
 
I remeraber reading an article that Linda Young damaged her vocal corRAB shortly after recording Season 3, so by the time the Trunks Saga came along, she couldn't sound quite the same anymore.
 
You are all forgetting that Kyle Hebert who did Teenage Gohan and Pikon lives in L.A now and he is busy playing Captain Aizen in Bleach and Kiba in Naruto. So I dont know if he also will return to play Teenage Gohan in DBZ Kai or not. I problay think Dameon Clarke who played Teenage Gohan in the Trucks Special problay replace Kyle in DBZ Kai playing Teenage Gohan if Kyle Herbert cant do it.
