Trying to get confirmation from other sources but according to daizex, Navarre announced during an earnings conference call that Funi has DBK.

Thanks to Doctor for the hookup

Honestly, Funi shoudln't waste more money for more Dragon Ball stuff that has been already released.

Besides, Kai's violence is edited, and the only cool new thing about it is the opening.

So we'll be seeing our first Kai release within the next five months? Dang, that's pretty soon, actually. Looking forward to more info!

Well, we all knew this was inevitable. Heck, it might be the most obvious anime license in history. I am impressed by the relatively fast turn around, though. Even in the worst case scenario, it'll be coming in a matter of months after it enRAB on Japanese television.

Of great interest will be whether they actually do a fresh dub for the show. I think this would do a world of good for both Funi and the fans. It'll refresh an old product and distinguish it in an important way from the original series, which is definitely an issue given the Dragon Box. And let's be honest: who doesn't wonder what a Dragon Ball dub with current standarRAB would be like? Old talent (as possible) + fresh script = me being very interested.

I honestly expected they would pick it up eventually, but I didn't think they'd get it this soon. Adam Sheehan said numerous times at cons that FUNi wanted Dragonball Kai really badly. Why wouldn't they want it? FUNi themselves said that Dragonball "prints fricken money." Now what remains the question, is if they'll start a fresh dub or simply re-edit the existing recorded audio?

No reason to buy an inferior series with filler and support the Dragon Box sets now. I'll wait for DVD sets of DB Kai.

Bad move on Navarre's part regardless, should've waited until they released 5 or 6 DBox's. Now Funimation has to suffer for it.

I kinda like the "Z" in the title. Doesn't get one's hopes up that it's a brand new series instead of a revised edition of Z.

Guess it makes sense that they added "Z" to the name, since DBZ is the more well known brand in America compared to just DB. I'm still waiting for FUNi to license the JUMP special, though.

Yes, FUNi shouldn't sell something that everybody wanted of their flagship franchise.

Wow, that Z is so awkwardly placed. JTP won't be happy....

Congrats FUNi. This will be the first Dragon Ball related thing I buy since Vol. 9 and 10 of DBGT.

A new dub is the only real reason people here are excited. If it prints money, SPEND MONEY on the dub, Funi.

It's a serious trollwreck if there isn't a new dub.

Seriously, people would be even MORE willing to buy Dragon Ball Kai if it includes an all newly recorded dub. Not only would it give FUNi the chance to write a more accurate script, but the voice actors have also improved quite a bit since the original Dragon Ball Z dubbing days. I mean some of the voice actors are scattered around now, such as Sean Schemmel living in New York, but they seem perfectly capable of still getting them to record the video games still. If they simply re-used the existing recorded dub and just edited around that, it would seem half-assed and choppy.

It's an interesting idea, having a new dub. Having a script more accurate to the Japanese version I can definitely see happening, but the big question is, would FUNi possibly be willing to take a risk and recast any of the well-known characters? They have a significantly larger talent pool to work with nowadays. This would be their golden opportunity to make some changes to the voice cast if they so inclined.

What I wouldn't give to have a brand new Frieza voice for Kai.

Oh, and Puar. I know he doesn't talk much in Z, but when he does it causes me great rage.
