Functionality of Android 2 Global....

Hello, I am very interested in the new Android 2 Global but have a few questions that I couldn't clear up immediately after reading online about it.

Firstly, it seems like I get mixed results across the web in reference to whether or not Verizon uses SIM cards in any of their phones. I hear that the Android 2 Global does have a SIM card slot but am curious about whether or not it is unlocked for usage of any SIM card. I work outside of the US and am constantly travelling back and forth. For a phone to have this functionality is highly important for me.

Next, I guess this is simply a high hopes question but I have also done some research on dual SIM card phones. Being that my current phone works in some countries outside of the US on the CDMA network, I am assuming that the Android 2 Global will as well. Basically my question is whether or not this phone would function as a dual SIM card phone by accepting calls from my US number while abroad as well as locally on my internationally-used SIM card for whichever country I happen to be in.

I hope I can get some aclaration on these matters. I really like all of the other features that the Android 2 Global has to offer....

Thanks!

I just got the Droid 2 Global today, so my answers my not be exactly right, but they may help:

Verizon is a CDMA network, but they have sold other "global" phones in the past that have a CDMA chip and GSM chip. The D2 Global comes with a SIM, but you can use one you already have. I'm assuming it will need to be a Verizon SIM, but I suppose it's possible that you could use a card from another provider (probably requires a hack in the OS, though).

I don't think it operates quite like you hope. From my understanding, the SIM would be from Verizon and would be a single phone number.

One positive thing is that you have a choice on what network you use. By default, the phone is set to "Global", but you can limit it to CDMA or GSM/UMTS. There even seems to be something in there to specify a preferred network when you select GSM/UMTS, so you might be able to use a non-Verizon SIM without hackery.

It will be quite interesting to see what the folks at xda come up with for the D2G.

Verizon allow you to unlock your Global phone (one phone per year per account) I was able to unlock the Blackberry storm for 2 or my users and once the phone is unlocked it can be used with other carriers who support that phone. Normally a Verizon Global phone would work with CDMA and GSM network. You don't want to hack the phone instead just call in the support and ask them to walk you with unlocking your phone.
