Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conquerer of Shambala TALKBACK (SPOILERS)

I dig the movie. I've always loved faux-historical anime, and I LOVED that brief part of the show when they were in "our world," so seeing that continue was great. I had no real problems with it - other than the villain, who comes out of NOWHERE - and I adore the ending, so, yeah... good stuff.

I watched it a few months ago myself

No, I watched it on Netflix.

And I thought Ed got his real arm and leg back? That's the only thing that really confused me, since I hadn't seen the finale in years, but I specifically remeraber that part.

As for the ending,
I...guess they're leaving the idea open that, even though the Ed and Al will work on closing the gate, everybody reunites on one side or the other.

That's the only thing I didn't like about this movie: it really had no happy ending unless you infer it. I have no desire to return to this universe of Fullmetal Alchemist after this movie. It was like everything had run out of steam and there was nothing left to explore in the world. Not to say the manga won't do the same, but this movie just left an empty feeling that's a bit depressing.

Well we at least know Ed must of succeeded in some way with Al, since there is a 100 years later OVA showing him as a old man with grandchildren and all.

But yeah I agree, I'm kind of done with this universe myself, I'm really excited to see the dub version of Brotherhood.

Roy has a lot in his plate because of the events of the last episode...
-He killed Bradley for revenge. Despite its necessity, this act betrayed his promise to Hughes that he become the better man (NO revenge). Since FMA (both versions) see revenge as a big no-no (regardless of your opinion), it would be ridiculous to think Roy got away unscathed.
-His revenge led to the death of an innocent child. Yet another death on his conscience. Probably thinks himself as some death-magnet (with Hughes, Selim, and Edward's disappearance). Stay away Riza!
-He is undergoing the 5 stages of Grief over Hughes. His referring to his tears at the funeral as rain is Denial. His desire to continue his promise for Hughes is Bargaining. Discovering Bradley's complicity & killing him is Anger. AfterwarRAB, he is dealing with Depression, and there is no time-table for that end.
So Roy had a whole lot to deal with after the events of the series. He got away from the country for some spiritual recovery. As for the 'happy ending' scenes, either Roy is giving a poker-face of wellness to Riza (to make her feel better) or he is attempting recovery, only to relapse. Sorry Royai fans, it happens! (ex: Arima in KAre Kano).

Personally, I love CoS. It is 2nd to Tenchi Muyo in Love as my favorite Series Movie. I loved the historical setting (especially the nod to German Cinema. Anyone ever see Die Nibelungen, the movie-within-the-movie?), feeling the Nazis were a good parallel to Amestris & its State. I liked HumanAlphonse (especially his expressions when (a) he returns to his body after his reunion with Ed and (b) his freak-out over the dead child). I liked Nazi Hughes and his progression from racist to hero, and loved his romantic ending with Gracia (Y'know, FMA gave mainstream Hughes&Gracia scant attention). Sure there were flaws (why does Roy return & does he survive that falling wing?), but they didn't hurt my enjoyment. Personally, I found nothing depressing about the ending:
The Brothers are together and explore this new world. Sorry haters, but I never saw FMA as 'The Love Story of Ed & Winry'.

What? But that's all the story was about! What other story was there?

I think I was more annoyed not by the fact that this wasn't the love story of Ed and Winry but just more on the fact that that particular relationship wasn't really properly concluded. At least a final goodbye or hug would have sufficed.

I think CoS gets way too much of a bad rap. I felt it was a really good movie.

(As I type this, I see FUNi's banner for the blu-ray beneath me...)
