FullMetal Alchemist New Series 2009

Eh, I think they're writing the emotional scenes better; then again I don't think it's necessary to bludgeon the viewer repeatedly in order to make a scene emotional. :/

It's like this show couldn't be bad if it tried. Absolutely amazing so far, and promising only to get more awesome as this arc nears it's completion.

I'm watching this series from the point of view of somebody who hasn't seen/read anything of this series yet. Or you could say I'm watching this as if the original Anime never existed. So far they haven't shown any of the relationship between the three family merabers; all we got was "we grew up in a small town, this is our mom, oh and by the way she died", and even at the funeral scene Ed & Al were joking at their mother's grave and acting as if it weren't a big deal. Trying not to redo the same thing you've already done =/= making your characters look like complete *******s. There's no emotional impact so far and one of the reasons I picked up FMA personally was how powerful it was emotionally. This adaptation, which I remind you is supposed to be a more faithful adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, has completely hashed through what was originally a very gripping and interesting opening to a series. You could argue that you don't want to watch the same thing over again but still, you have to say that the creative input of BONES was pretty awful in this episode. They've completely ruined every major reveal that this introduction arc had [again, note that I'm watching this series from the POV of someone who is new to FMA] and have not faithfully followed the manga storyline. I mean, the last fight? What? I couldn't even appreciate the higher level of quality animation [which seemed to have dropped yet another notch from episode 1] as the whole idea of a supersized Cornello smashing around the gaff made me go "this is the bad kind of silly". The scene at the outdoor bar at the beginning, which I love, was rushed like crazy and no chance was given to bring up either Lust and her curious knowing of the brothers or why Rose might need Cornello's miracles [instead, it was simply thrown in with the other reveals all at the same time: ONSLAUGHT OF REVEAL - DUNGEON EDITION]. And Rose herself, at the end, who I felt a little sorry for in both the original anime/manga [really, she's just a girl who has lost her path] is even turned into a selfish ***** with her "GIVE ME THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE" bullshit. Why add that in when they could have worked a few more seconRAB into another canon moment of the arc?

I appreciate that there are people here who just want BONES to hurry up and put the new material into animation. I can't wait myself, but I'm frustrated at the shoddy adaptation that these guys have produced so far.

tl;dr: I am aware of my inner fanbrat and find this new series to be poorly reproduced.

That's a relief then, seems I've been missing out on high quality animation, so my eyes bugged out of my head when I watched this.

I'm used to standard, like bleach, pretty good, like Death note, downright awful, Tsubasa, or really nice Miyazaki stuff for movies only.

Thanks for easing away my worry a little, I'll try to not go crazy while waiting for the next ep.
Yeah . . . Roy getting soaked is awesome, very funny.

Episode 57 was great. I didn't think the old man will get ****ed up that much. At least his death didn't go to vain; that left eye of his is ****en annoying good thing they got rid of it. It was quite sad.

Also, that ****en dude is creepy as ****. His eyes look at opposite enRAB he does some godlike alchemy. And I thought they were going to show more of the fight with Father and Hohenheim but oh well.

KN six episode till what?

Episode 9 was mainly filled with Lols with the odd serious bit, seems like what Chopper said to Al really got to him but he should never of doubted his brother like that, it was funny how Winry thought she was getting the blame for Ed's arm then when she realised he hadn't noticed, she flew with it.

well i don't know much about the woman that created FMA, but she was probably influenced by something. like, we do have prosthetic arms and legs that people can get, so that technology isn't all that farfetched from reality.

yep it is very good.

And yeah well its a question no one can really answer. But one thing I like is seeing how Edward grows up in a way cause at the point we see him in present time he seems young or it seems that way.

I don't read the manga, but someone who does in this thread said it's coming to an end soon, I would guess this series has covered a good amount of it so far, if you read the manga then read my post above yours to see where it's at.

I'm honestly kinda wondering if I should bother with fansubbers at all (who will almost certainly get C&RAB) or just get in the habit if watching it on thursdays with the big 3 shounen series.

Epsiode 20- was excellent. How come [blackout]ed hasn't revived his mom and his teacher hasn't revived the baby. Thats good news and it clearly shows it when she says thanks. But could this be a coincidence or is common among people who break a taboo? That's very interesting.

Ed being confident that he can get Al's body back bring new hope for them and further development.[/blackout]
