I'm so glad Kate won the best actress one:D:D:D:D
Slumdog won 8 oscars :)

Happy for all that won but I'd have loved to have seen Gus Van Sant get Best Director- he is a wonderful filmmaker and a lovely guy and I hope one day he finally gets the recognition he deserves. Danny Boyle was a worthy winner though and Sean Penn nearly had me in tears with his speech! :o

Personally....I felt Robert Downey Jr totally deserved best supporting actor. Heath is gone...may be rest in peace and no award his family puts up on a shelf will bring him back. But Robert Downey Jr gave an incredible performance in "Tropic Thunder". People talk about Mickey Rourke as a great hollywood comeback story....but Robert Downey Jr is an amazing comeback story.

Heath can't accept the award anymore...why not give it to someone living?

glad man on wire won best documentary very intresting stuff

brilliant that heath ledger recieved the award he truly deserved it as did the sound editor from the dark knight truly brilliant.

Most people were scrating their heaRAB as to how RDJ even got nominated. He no way deserved to win it, an enjoyable turn but hardly oscar worthy.

Because his performance was far and away the best of those nominated In years to come his will be the one performance amongst his fellow nominees that will be viewed as iconic and his death does not change that.

I'm sick of the cheap shots people use about his death as a reason why he shouldn't win (or implying it's the only reason he did win), at least make a proper arguement for someone else to have won based on the merit.

I am over the moon that Heath won his Oscar. I know it doesn't bring him back, but i honors his performance, which at least was unforgettable. Ever since i watched Dark Knight i wanted him to win and this has just made my day :)

I knew he wouldn't win, too much of a wildcard for the oscars folks, unfortunetly.

That said, Sean Penn was equally good in Milk...

hmm he was good but i always think actors g real life people get rewarded for just doing a good impression

MR created a whole new character - do you know what i mean?

He absolutely did. It seemed all rather political on this one (as per usual, I guess). Penn was perfectly good, but Rourke was just magnificent in The Wrestler.

I agree gutted Mickey Rourke didn't win best actor, well tbh I knew he wouldn't.
Penn was great in Milk, but Mickey was superb in The Wreslter, it was such a stunning performance, I agreed with most of the other results.
Glad Kate and Penelope won. Noone was going to beat Heath, but I personally thought Josh Brolin was better in Milk.

I thought Mikey Rourke was a shoe in for best actor. But Sean Penn was equally deserving. Also a special mention to Heath Ledger who was rightly named the best supporting actor. He was phenomenal in 'The Dark Knight'.

Really pleased for Kate Winslet. She was superb in 'The Reader'.

And what a night for 'Slumdog Millionaire'. :)

Can someone tell me who watched the show how far into it, the acting awarRAB are awarded.

It's repeated today at 1.30pm on Sky movies somewhere and I'd like to see Kate and Penelope's acceptance speeches.

Ta.

Yes, it's a shame but I wasn't terribly surprised. Penn is very much a Hollywood media luvvie and Milk is the sort of film that Hollywood likes.

My other disappointment was that In Bruges didn't win the Original Screenplay Oscar.

Delighted Kate won at last but The Reader isn't her best performance by a long way. She should have won for Eternal Sunshine.

I'm very happy with the results. Winslet and Penn both deserved it, imo, and Penelope Cruz was fantastic in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

I actually think Philip Seymour-Hoffman should have won supporting actor for Doubt, which for me was a better performance than Ledger's Joker; but nevertheless, I'm not unhappy with that and he was certainly great in the role.
