Full HD TV probs when playing GTA 4?

Ok, so I bought a full hd tv yesterday, set up my ps3 to play GTA 4. All was cool for about 30 seconds. The HD display on the tv started out at 1920 x 1080p but then dropped down to 1280 x 720p just before the game actually started. I've tried everything I can and it still won't play at full res. Anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? I'm using a HDMI cable from the ps3 to the tv.
 
well, u know wat i had the same problem instead i used a pc to connect to my full hd tv, the problem is with the game itself, due to the graphic lock the resolution is prevented.....so i used a hotfix, dunno about d ps3.
