Fujifilm Finepix S1000 setting for outdoors?

I have a Fuji digital camera and I can't figure what setting I am supposed to use when outdoors in a bright setting. I tried taking pictures today at the outdoor pool but they all came out black. I tried each setting but they still weren't coming out.
 
it could be the aperture setting.. open it more so that it capture more light.. (click the up/down button whilst you ready to take picture)

if figure the aperture hard for you, just turn it to auto
