Fucking stomach ulcers.

;912068']So, my tummy hurt really bad one day. I had thrown up what may have been a little blood a day or so before, but I wasn't sure since I've been on Capri-Sun like crack.

I go to the docs, and they take a good look at things, and I had to poop in a container for the doc (apparently, a Hardee's cup is not acceptable). They tell me I have an ulcer, and they go on about my diet and whatnot.

So, I have to cut back on drinking... a LOT. And eat some hellacious antacids.

This makes me cranky. Any suggestions for the pain?

I had a problem similar...was throwing up blood at work. It went on for a week until I hurled a little meaty chunk up, then everything was fine.

You're a soldier-y man, you don't need painkillers. bite the bullet.

Having been through that:

NO drinking alcohol. NONE. Zero. Zip. Zilch.

The three worst things you can input into your body with regards to your stomach are alcohol, nicotine and caffeine.

So, if you REALLY want to help your ulcer out, no booze, no soda/coffee and NO smoking/chew.

A bleeding ulcer is NOT something to take lightly. They can lead to serious infections or other problems which could kill your ass.

If you have really bad heart burn, the fastest fix is a teaspoon of baking SODA (not powder) in an 8 oz. glass of water. Pound that fucker. Do NOT sit down. Do NOT lay down. You WILL belch shortly and it WILL hurt. Then you WILL need to pee. Once you've taken your race horse sized piss, go take a fucking nap or whateveter it is you were trying to do.

Baking Soda and wate cures heartburn. Quickly. It's just not real nice about HOW it does it.

Thankfully, I never had it...

I was gonna say you'd have to drink a lot of water as well. Don't overdo it, though, but try and make it at least two litres. And go with the baking soda, like Uber said. It might hurt like hell, but it might just get the job done.

Good luck dude...

;912081']Yeah. I'm not kicking the smokes. Not gonna happen. As far as the booze goes, I'm fine... we had a kegger here in Florida, and I just wasn't feeling it anyway... so I just chilled.

Now that coffee thing... that's gonna be a problem.

Obviously, someone with an ulcer should avoid acid-forming foods as much as possible and stick with neutral foods and alkaline forming foods as much as possible. Almost all dairy products are acid-forming and should be avoided (with the exception of butter, which is neutral and whole milk, which is alkaline-forming).

A list of foods broken down into these three categories can be found here.

Outside of food consumption, emotions that are categorised as negative (fear, anxiety, stress, etc.) will tip the body's ph balance towards the acidic end of the spectrum.

Also, as I'm sure you know (but for others that may not) exercise will produce lactic acid in the body which may irritate an ulcer. Might be a good time to take a week off from training.

;912343']I have trouble with dairy products. Makes me shit like a wild ape (I heard my uncle say that).

I have avoided spicy, greasy, and in general nasty foods. I've been scarfing veggies when possible, and eating smaller portions of "heavy" food.

I used to have a bad ulcer. Tagamet (over-the-counter medication) helped a LOT. So did not drinking alcohol. Eat lots of breads; they absorb excess stomach acid so it doesn't come up your esophagus on you. Fruits are acidic and can aggravate the ulcer. So are some vegetables. Eat the more fibery ones like broccoli and peas.
