First of all, I have 8 billlion pop ups, then, when i'm on my MSN it signs me out like every 5 min. I'm getting really pissed off. I think we have that spy thing going on. How do I stop it? How do I fix the problems? I need help. I don't do computers.

hang on. i will PM you a link with a bunch of free software in it. it's been my experience that a combination of several different programs has to be used to get it right.

http://www.fruzzetti.org:8080/magnolia has four pieces of software:

1) ad-aware 1.8.1.1
2) avast! antivirus
3) CWShredder
4) HijackThis

be careful with HijackThis, because it gives you enough power to ruin your computer. i am not responsible for you over-reacting and doing something stupid.

for ad-aware and avast, they have "connect to my web site and update me" options. use them before you scan.

It's a lot easier to just use an alternative web browser like Opera, and an alternative chat client like Trillian. I've been using both for ages now (since initial versions or so), and haven't had any issues with popups or adware/spyware being installed on my system.

The best way to deal with these issues is to stop using the delivery systems they target, MS Outlook or Outlook Express and Internet Explorer. It's that simple.

*sigh of relief* I love how stereotypical we math majors are. Good at math, and good with comps. It does seem funny how every math teacher and professor I ever had was an uber haxor and computer nerd. Hmmmmm, I wonder...............

My math teachers know nothing about computers. So your little theory is blown out of the water. Sorry. :frown: And cheat, thanks. I'll try to get that opera thing. :)

My solution for the past several months:
* for email: Mozilla Thunderbird
* for the web: Mozilla Firefox
* for chat clients: Trillian

All are freeware. Since I got rid of all my Micro$oft shit, I haven't had any problems with popups, trojans, or anything else for that matter.

Considering that recently the US Department of Homeland Security recommended that users stop using the IE browser due to security issues, now would be a good time to switch. Not that I needed them to tell me that. ;-)
