republicans were the easiest to influence first. too many democrats still held onto the ideals of the common man. but the money was too much to ignore and eventually they fell in line as well.

most of the blame, in this case, ought to go to Republicans who suddenly decided they wanted to be fiscally "conservative" even though they haven't actually been true conservatives (small govt, personal freedom) in decades
 
interent boom that happened in part to gov't research into the sciences. Had the gov't not invested in technology instead of relying on a private sector that is not motivated by curiosity and the enlightenment of all mankind but instead is interested in quartely earnings and only researches things it can sell, it wouldn't had happened.


we killed off things like NASA, arguing that the private sector will handle space travel. bullshit. private sector isn't going to explore for the sake of expanding knowledge, it's going to explore for the sake of profit.
 
GPS would not have happened the way it did if it did without government research and money. The initial implementation was a joint project between the Army and the Navy
