Fuck You, Bank.

I wouldn't mind paying a fee to have it overnighted, but $62 for a replacement card is pretty high.

That's great (seriously), but you obviously aren't doing anything intelligent with your money. Put enough cash to pay your bills for 6 months in a high yield savings as an emergency fund, keep your monthly expenses + whatever extra in checking, then put the rest into some kind of investments. Even if you don't want to do the research for any 'real' investing you can buy some 12m CDs or get in on a mutual.

Even if she just keeps it in a non-interest checking account, she'll have FDIC protection which is better than letting it rot in a 'lockbox'.

;953621']Or risking some asshole stealing it. Funny thing about lockboxes- you can run off with them and cut into 'em at your leisure at another location.

No I basically have just found it easier to keep my money at home. I don't have bank accounts because I get government assistance until I'm out of college and I don't think they need to know if I have a bit of money saved for emergencies because they'll count that against my income and significantly drop my assistance.

Example: I don't spend change. Ever. Even if something is $4.01 I'll give a $5 and take the 99 cents. All of my change goes into seperate piggy banks for Kane that are in his room. Repeated: NOT SPENT. Ever. Regardless of the purpose of this saving, if I put it in a bank and get more than $1000 they'll take ALL of my assistance. Not exactly something I want. So until I'm out of college, I'll have no bank accounts or anything.

;953650']Glass Cutter- $3.29

Suction cup- $12.99

Wal-Mart shoes 2 sizes bigger than yours- $20.99

Baseball Cap you'll only need to wear once- $10.55

Cheap Gloves- $4.49

Waiting until the middle of the night to do a 6 minute snatch & grab and realizing you just boosted their entire savings- Priceless

They charged you for a replacement card?! WTF?!

LEAVE THEM. Srsly.

All they should have done was cancel your old one and reorder you a new one that you would have to reset the PIN for, which SHOULD be free.

Your bank is probably in trouble and they need that money. It's either that or they are assholes. Both of which are valid reasons to leave.

Hint people: NEVER report checks as lost. There is usually a fee to cancel them. But if you were to report that your checks were stolen, that's a separate story.

also, don't mail checks. Srsly. It just sounds like a bad idea. Either pay the bill AT the branch, or online. It's safest that way, it's faster, and there's no chance of the post office losing your check.

I don't know if this was directed at me, but if it was, here's what happened. I deposited a check, and a week later, it still hadn't appeared in my account. It was not mailed, I deposited it at the ATM machine at the branch. I went down to the branch, and had to sit with a representative for an hour. Two days in a row. It took them another two weeks to find my check and get the money into the account, at which time, they charged me a $37.00 service fee for tracking down and fixing their screw up. I think it was fleet bank at the time, I don't know who they merged with. Anyway, after that, I closed my account and took my business to a small local bank. Wouldn't you know, they had a better deal on a checking account for me anyway.

P.S. The reason I deposited it in the ATM at all, was because fleet used to charge you every time you made a transaction at a teller window.

Yeah, ATM's cause more problems than anything else, and no it wasn't directed at you steel. It's advice I give all customers who come to my window asking what to do about lost checks.

The problem with ATM's is unless they are inside a branch, chances are they are not maintained by the branch. If they're a drive up ATM, they are maintained by the security company employed by the bank. For example, all of my bank's ATM's, excluding the ones in the banks themselves, are maintained by the security company. They fill it, empty it, fix it....they take care of it. Chase clients can use it and it has the Chase name all over it, but Chase does not maintain them in any way, shape or form.

The people you SHOULD have talked to steel is the people who handle the ATM, unless it was an inside ATM. If it was an inside ATM, then your old bank was a bunch of idiots.

Seriously people, when I say I'll help you with bank problems, I mean it.
