Backing outta Chris' driveway at 3-5MPH, I hit some random Chrysler Sebring parked in the street. It was dark and I misjudged the distance...

Major scratches on my bumper, but no physical damage.

I gotta go back tomorrow and see if any damage was done to this car now. FUCK. Right in the middle of FUCKING WYANDANCH, SHIT. Some big hulking black guy is gonna kill me when I tell him "Yeah, I hit your car dude..."

Will this make my rates go up? It was a fucking love tap, I'll be pissed if it will...I mean there CAN'T be any major damage to that car...

I do NOT intend to leave this guy hanging.

So what shouldn't be more than a few hundred bucks worth of damage would make my rates go up?

I might just put a few hundred bucks in his mailbox. Seriously. That would be MUCH cheaper than actually reporting it...

I'm going to have Chris go out tomorrow and see how badly I fucked it up. There shouldn't be more than scratches. Then, I will ask around on automotive forums to see how much it should cost, then put a like $70 more than that in his mailbox.

Just kill the guys whole family then the last thing on his mind will the little dent on his car. So, you won't even have to bring it up to him. Problem solved.

I haven't totalled my Hyundai yet :gay:. Nor will I any time soon.

Night time + Dark blue car = My bad.

At least I'm being a decent person about it.

I posted this as soon as I got home.

I would just talk to the owner. Most people understand about not reporting an accident to your insurance company. He will probobly be cool with you paying out of pocket.

Also tell them to get rid of the Sebring. When I had one I was rear ended 9 times (7/9 was just a tap, no real damage). And the fucking thing was bright red!

The fact that you know it was a dark blue Seabring tells me that you were there long enough to see if you damaged his car.

If it scratched your bumper it damaged his car.

Now, will it make your rates go up? If he reports it yes. If you and he can settle it without talking to the insurance company then no. They can't jack your rates if they don't know.

But don't be an asshole and leave a couple hundred bucks in his mail box. 1. Putting things in people's mailboxes is a felony unless you're the mailman. 2. He can take the money, report the accident and then say you never left any money. 3. You don't know how much damage you did until you have an estimate from the body shop and leaving a couple hundred bucks might not cover it.

Hindsight tip: When you fuck someone else's shit up and they arent around for you to talk about it. A simple note on the windshield leaving your contact info, and a brief explanation of what happened, is the appropriate thing to do.

Your rates may not necessarily go up, depending on your insurer, and your driving record with that insurer.

Kudos to you though, for being honest, and trying to rectify the situation.

I agree with Uber that you dont want to just leave a bunch of cash in the mailbox, or whatever.. if the guy's a douchebag, you would be setting yourself up to get ripped off.
