My long list of rants pertaining to computers:
Last night i'm surfing the web and what not, I get to a website and one of those annoying "install" plugin windows pops up. I click no, but this time, it says that I can't access the website unless I click yes! WTF?? I normally don't click yes, but I'm kinda pissed and I really want to see this website so I click yes. Turns out the website wasn't really what I wanted anyway.
I turn on my computer this morning, and of course it is infested with 50 different adware, spyware bots, etc. I'm getting pop ups out the wazzoo, theres new junk search toolbar installed, of course it uses one of those illegitimate search engines that only return "results" of their partner sites.
I know people praise this ad-aware program like it is god, but I personally hate it. I used it once on my old computer, the shit deleted some junk that it wasn't supposed to, and ended up messing up the internet adaptor or something. I got so frustrated debugging the problem that I finally just reformatted the whole hard drive, losing a whole bunch of data.
Today I've been working on some web development project for a volunteer, unpaid position. Of course I don't really want to be doing this, I just want to get the "experience." It's really frustrating, because I have to use a scripting language I don't have experience in. It is really hard just to find out how to do simple things, like redirect the browser or use a session variable, because the language is constantly changing, client side, server side, etc. There are many solutions posted on the internet, but only one in ten work the way I want. Plus programming in general is just a frustrating task.
I used to go to a website called experts-exchange for programming help which was pretty good, but I surf to it a few days ago and its now a pay site??! Fuck!! Hell no, I don't have that money to waste...
Of course I have no motivation for this volunteer programming thing. I wanted to find a paid internship this summer, but of course I couldn't get one. Some places only accept applicants that have a 3.0 GPA. Shit, I'm sorry that I got a C in a few gen-ed classes that have nothing to do with programming anyway!!!
One place I was extremely qualified for what they were looking for, and they called me. I talk to the admin girl, shes nice, things are going good. She connects me to some "project manager" guy. What bullshit! I hate these type of people. They know a little bit of technical stuff, but have no real experience in it, but they think they understand everything. This manager proceeds to quiz me about web programming over the phone! I'm thinking WTF, I'm honest with him I say sorry, I don't memorize intricate syntax, I don't know the answer on the spot. Its clear this guy doesn't really know what he's talking about. For one, he asks me what tags I have used in VBscript, there are no "tags" in VBscript!!! What really pissed me off was that he told me to fresh up on some stuff, he'd ask a programmer to call and interview me tomorrow. I'm looking forward to talking to someone that knows what he's talking about, I spend the night studying HTML, ASP, SQL, VBscript documentation. Next day, of course no one calls! Why can't he just tell me he doesn't like me/doesn't want me?? Lying to me resulted in no benifit to him at all.
I'm not really interested in programming anyway. I don't want to do it for the rest of my life. It is tedious, boring, frustrating, stressful. I'd rather do something more mechanical but people tell me to stay, away, the field is declining. If I do something related to computers, I'd rather do something related to integrated computing, or data engineering, but demand is lower for this. Everyone tells me "IT" is hot, and its true thats where the opportunities are. however, I don't really see much advancement opportunity. If I got a job as a programmer, the pay is pretty good but even if got a few promotions over 20 years, I'd never make enough to be rich. Shit, all I want in life is a house with a 3-car garage and enough cars to fill up that garage. Thats what this warped american society has put in my head.
This one isn't really that bad just a little annoying. Yesterday, I bid on an item on ebay with about a minute to go. I'd been following this item for a few days. with under 10 seconds to go, I'm I still have highest bid. I refresh the browser. By the time the page loads, the auction is over. And someone outbid me with 3 seconds to go!!! Shit, I need a faster internet connection.
Speaking of internet connections, what is up with ISPs ripping people off. I sign up for service over the phone a few months ago, for one free month and a regular price of 29.95. Turns out they charge me like $50 the first month!! I call them, they agree to 29.95, then next month they overcharge me again!!!!
What I really need is a new computer. One of those sleek, trendy laptops that all my classmates have. But shit, there like $3000!!! Damn, how do these kids afford this stuff...
And I just wasted half an hour typing this.... Fuck internet message boards!!!
