Before I say this, I would like to state that I have an extremely bad case of ADD, and I am on a very high dosage of Adderall. This piece of shit disorder is driving me nuts, and I feel like we aren't devoting enough medical attention to it, in terms of advancement. Couldn't we try to create some kind of surgical method to speed up slower ADD-inhibited frontal lobes? Of course not. Pills pills pills! FUCK PILLS. I want complete, lifetime relief, no more of this pill bullshit. I shouldn't have to take a pill to allow myself to learn, or even work for that matter.
I have been on Adderall since the third grade. I recently have become tolerant to it, so about 90% of the relief from ADD is gone...So now I am on a combination of ADD and Strattera...and it sucks. Strattera is a breakthrough pill, that sadly has very little effect for me, and takes ages to kick in. I am going to get off this pill, as it is doing nothing for me. I cannot focus in summer school (I'm taking math over), and I'm starting to have trouble with the lessons because I will space out for 5-20 minutes at a time. I feel fucked. I feel like I did before I went into kindergarten, and was diagnosed then. I would go on Dexadrine, but Adderall is derived from Dexadrine, and it would not have much effect. My only other option is Ritalin, which made me very depressed at the time I took it.
So what is it like to have ADD? Yeah, it's great! You usually have music stuck in your head, you will space out, and it's exactly what it's like on the Strattera commercial, with the channels always flipping in your head. It's fucking annoying, especially since the job you want to do when you get older could really make it hard (video game design).
Don't make fun of people with ADD. It's a fucking annoying ass disorder, to which there is no cure. Your kids have a 50% chance of getting it, if you have it. My mom was just diagnosed, so I have her crappy genetics to thank for it.
