FTN - Why so special?

If your main criteria for tracker selection is the number of torrents and number of peers, then the trackers with the most users will always win out. It is not reasonable to think FTN with a 6k userlimit could possibly keep as many torrents alive as TL, which has what? 200k members?

Yeah but you have to admit those are pretty compelling reasons.

Edit:Sorry I forgot that you where around for the whole witty "Buddy" thing.

Whatcd VIP. But it's too exclusive for you :P
There's plenty of spam that goes on there too, but in general it's nice :)

Tracker channels in general, especially those on 0-day sites are particularly bad. That doesn't mean there's never a good conversation there, but there's plenty of spam thrown in as well. I dunno, personally I idle in a few genre-based music channels, there's also a channel with ~15 close friends that's nice for keeping in touch. Some channels on freenode are great for getting tech help with stuff that's poorly documented or overwhelming (I've had great help with general linux inquiries, rutorrent, ZNC, etc). Really it boils down to whether you like the people in the channel more than the actual content.

I can say I've definitely had conversations ranging from politics to religion to coding to drugs to who knows what else though, and I learn something new all the time. Now whether the hundreds of spammed news and nsfw links and 1337speak is a worthwhile tradeoff, that's up to you.

It's also worth noting that pretty much anyone I've been friendly with in the torrenting world has been met via IRC, and I don't think there were any of those so called "1337" trackers that I joined that weren't at least indirectly from someone I knew in IRC. I'm only really a forum poster on a few sites and I'm pretty particular about which forums I post in as well, so I'm not really that visible in that respect. Because of that I always try to return the favour as much as possible.

The community is good in the sense that people compete their seedboxes against each other to get the most upload, so the site is able to pull off no ratio and no seed time required for casual members. No other 0day will do that, which at least for me is the appeal of FTN. Fast(er) as nzbs, and the same lack of hassle involved. If you measure community by user IQ, I'd bet FTN is no better than any other torrent site.

It IS a very good tracker, with an exceptionally fair and hones Staff. Period. To be a sort of "0-day" tracker has never been their goal. It's not about pretimes there.

It's hard to argue that it isn't a special tracker, has loads of good content, great pre-times and is for sure somewhat elitist. You have a small active liberal laid back community comprised of experienced torrenters that feel blessed to be there or and/or entitled to say what they feel every post they make. Now that get's a little annoying for it kind of at times feels like no one really gives a shit about others posts and opinions. Coming from the NY area i would rather see more interaction than the constant ass kissing from new members hoping to get the higher ups attention. What perplexes me is no one really questions the high monthly donation requirements but they will come up with 50 different issues or additions that could to make the place even "cooler" and lately every month were are reminded how it may all end if that donation percentage isn't reached. Naturally this distresses the freeloaders, constant donors and the sensitive liberals. There's definetly a west coast hippy type feel in there and i would never want any member there backing me up if i was about to get into a fight lol. Much rather have some shady PT or Iplay Metal steel pipe wielding cats backing me up. That being said it's still a relaxing tracker to use if you have a fast connection, deep pockets and don't mind at times seeding for several days. I would surely miss it if it disapeared tomorrow.

Gorilla .

(Most people probably won't get this equally obtuse and self-serving remark either)

To answer the original question seeing as there are other ratio-free sites, ones with packs:dabs:, better pretimes:sick: ,way better retention and are "harder to get an invite to" since you apparently have at least the brain power required to type coherent sentences I leave it to you to figure out the answer for yourself.

FTN doesnt have the fastest pre times, or the most torrents, though for 6k members it does have alot, it has great packs , but so do most sites now, they did start the "great pack thing though" what it has for its members who have been there for years and years like me is the feeling like really comfy old shoes. you know people there, can get most anything your looking for, or someone will for you, a superb forum community with all the information you could want. more members and more torrents isnt the be all and end all.

1-the FTN staff were so good to make their site the most wanted site
2-traders always raise up the tracker value . one invite can get u any other tracker
3-Free ratio tracker - high download speed great pre time ..... etc
that's my opinion . is it right or not i really don't know ?

slow down there

Really? I've been around as most people have. 4chan/Gamefaqs/gaming league forums/High end audio forums/High end watch forums/Board game forums/WoW Calculation forums/Game hacking forums which I ran myself/ the list could go on and on for days to be honest.

Torrenting is and remains the one place where I have seen the largest collection of idiots, to be honest. There's zero other places on the internet that have a bunch of people starting forum game threads every place they go/with every new open forum.
