Frustration over my NON-eating 3 year old!!!!?

Hi,

I am after some serious advice. My 3 year old daughter refuses to eat anything that isn't junk! Every night we both sit down at the table for a meal, its always healthy and freshly made, but she refuses to touch it. She sits at the table and waits for me to finish, but every time I try to get her to eat something she won't. She has breakfast with me and lunch at preschool, it's just the evenings that she won't eat. She does go through stages with her "non eating", but a the moment, it is pushing beyond my limits!
Please help, has anyone else had or having these problems and what is the best remedy?

Many Thanks in advance

It is normal and instinctive for toddlers to refuse fruits and vegetables. This may have some purpose, as it is thought this tendency reduces the likelihood of mistakenly eating poisonous plants.

What constitutes "junk" is different for adults and children. Children are very active, burning energy and converting protein all the time. The point is, at least she is eating something when she eats the junk food. Just keep persevering offering good quality food, she will be curious to try it eventually.

I understand your predicament, my 2 1/2 year old sometimes refuses to eat as well. What do you consider to be junk food? Why not stop giving her junk food and limit her liquid during the day so she will be hungry by dinnertime. I have the same problem with mine, as the day progresses she eats less and less. I have sometimes resorted to giving her a yogurt at night so she won't go to bed on an empty stomach but on the plus side she wakes up with a mighty appetite in the morning! Its a phase, just be calm and even if she doesn't eat her dinner give her the option of a fruit or a yogurt instead (something healthy). No crackers or cookies or anything else.

Should never have let her have junk in the first place. You will just have to be tough - eat your tea or you don't get anything else and stick to it (now why do I know that you won't). You need to find meals, that include vegetables, that she likes.
