Frustrated and looking for suggestions

Me me me

11 days ago I was at an outdoor walk with some students and noticed when I got back I had a bite on my lower back area. Didn't think much of it. 2days later I got a fever (101) chills and aching. I went to the doctor the next day and they said it was probably just a virus but put me on antibiotics for the bug bite, even though it didn't look like a tick bite. They siad just to be safe. I felt fine for 3 days and then this past Friday when I got home form work I noticed tingling in my hands and lower arms. I also got weak and lightheaded. The next day the tingling was in my legs also, so we wnet to the ER. They said it was not a stroke and did some bloodwork to check levels of electrolites, white blood cell count, etc. They said it all looked ok. Also, said it was probably a virus and would take time to feel better. I went to my regular doctor 2 days after that for follow up and he checked all of my reflexes and also said probably a virus and could last up to 10 days. He said I shouldn't worry about it unless I lose feeling or can't walk, etc. YEsterday, my face started tingling around my mouth and now tingles all over. My legs and hands still feel weak, and I feel like I'm getting worse and not better. I'm frustrated from being told by 3 different doctors it's probably a virus. Just wait it out. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone ever had this before? I'd appreciate the input. Thanks!

If the doctors ran blood work, they probably eliminated any type of medical condition. If they have not, I would recommend you go somewhere and have your blood taken.

If you are worried about it being a tick bite and that you've got Lyme disease, I can tell you it takes about 48 hours for the tick to pass along the spirocete that causes Lyme. They now give you some doxycycline to stop the spirocete in it's tracks if the bite just happened as it normally takes 3-30 days for Lyme disease to manifest itself. So unless the bite was there for at least 2 days before(and they itch like hell)chances are it isn't Lyme.

I vote for a weird virus as they can cause a whole mess of really strange symptoms.

good luck.............Jenny

I would try taking Benadryl, maybe you allergic to the bug bite you got, It wouldn't hurt to try it. You have no idea what bit you but what ever it is, it's in your system and could be causing this affect, more so like an allergic reaction.

p.s..-keep us posted.

You may want to wait a few more days to see if it's a Virus making its way through you.

To feel more empowered surrounding this (worry less)--
given the bite and the symptoms that arose --
it can't hurt to obtain the names of lyme-literate Mds over on the Lyme forum and even make an appointment. Just in case. You can always cancel if you feel better in a few days. Taking Benadryl couldn't hurt either as Kay suggested.

I had a tick bite that didn't itch & learned the hard way to be proactive.
A little too late for me now.

I heard today that sometimes people think they have a bug-bite, but it's really MRSA. I would think they ruled that out, but do you know why they thought you had a virus (high white count? Which type of white cells were elevated?)
I hope you're feeling better!
