From left field. On a weekly basis is our culture more influenced by football or church?

It occurs to me that a large percentage of our time is spent in front of a football game. I think more of our time is spent in front of a game than a preacher. Does football teach us the raw truth of life? Does it teach us how competitive life is? How serious our daily endeavors really are? How difficult it is to be a pro? Our society spends a lot of time doing it. What does watching games really teach our society?

There is most definitely culture in football. There are traditions involved in game days and in watching the games. People identify with it. I don't know if one is more influential or not, but I think there are life lessons to be learned from both.

In the western culture (US and Canada) is football, but in the rest of the world is soccer.

Its simple. Sports is more entertaining than church. Church gets boring. Always talking about the same thing over and over. I was an altar boy, church get boring fast.

In some ways sports teaches us to work hard, life is full of challenges, etc. They teach it in a way that is fun and exiting. The church on the other hand dictate how we should act and live our lives almost like brain-washing.

I have to say mine is more influenced by church. I never watch football (I don't watch television at all), but I live close to a church and the church bells inform me about the time.
